This feels like it could be a forever guitar. It certainly deserves to be.

Beautiful guitar! As a lefty, i completely understand how rare it is to find such a thing.
I can't help noticing the unusual string winding technique. Never seen that approach with slotted posts before.

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

And yes, didn’t notice the odd use of the tuners. Come to think of it he did mention how he kept the string ends trim in case of angry producers who thought the guitar might look untidy. Seems crazy when you can just tuck the string in the hole.
You always need a Tele. I faltered in the last year or so, getting excited about other stuff. This has just put it right back in my number one spot. Reminding me how great they are, and also being the coolest guitar ever.
Yes. Yes it is. I didn’t mean to do it. But as soon as I saw it, and the price, I couldn’t not. And it’s perfect on every front. Never in my life thought that I’d own a 60s Fender!
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Re: NGD: 1967 Telecaster
nice! Has it been refinished? Don"t even see a chip on it, and the neck looks shiny. Pickguard must be a replacement with the pickup mounting holes.
Very cool though. I've had my 68 for a long time, and I hope to never lose it. The best pickups and the maple cap neck is super tough. Mine is beat to death though, but keeps on truckin.
Enjoy, its a beauty.

I’ll drop you a PM with the name. He’s not well-known, his band played as the backing group to country artists in the 80s like Larry Boone.
The guy said the body has had a few touch-ups, but mostly just polished. Neck might have had a refin. I’ll take it apart & have a good look today.E Baxter Put wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2024 6:30 pmnice! I hadn’t noticed the pickguard - as per the above, this guitar did a lot of work in the 80s, so had some noiseless pickups fitted for a while (& a synth pickup). Must have lost the original around that time. I’ll ask him though, in case he’s got it knocking around. At 81, his memory still seemed pretty darn sharp.

Ok, so some interesting things going on here. Undisclosed humbucker route, & it’s painted.
Refin? He mentioned patch-repairs but said mostly just been polished. Would someone have bothered to paint the new routing to match the original, and would it even be possible to get such a good match?

That is indeed a once in a lifetime guitar. So cool.
If I were a betting man, I’d have to say it’s had a body refin…, but that’s not really my bag.

Re: NGD: 1967 Telecaster
I'm no expert, by any means, but wouldn't a late-60 Fender have the tell-tale paint stick and likely some sort of stamp/scrawl in the neck pocket?sal paradise wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2024 11:59 pmOk, so some interesting things going on here. Undisclosed humbucker route, & it’s painted. Refin?
Just eyeballing it some of these photos, the area around the uneven-looking humbucker route (and lower-bout photo of side of the neck pocket in particular) really look like touch-up house paint or something. It's as if you can see a crack and missing chunk of the original finish just painted over with white house paint that doesn't look nearly as smooth or as yellowed as on other areas of the body. The amount of white paint transfer on the neck also makes me wonder.
If I had to guess, I'd say at the very least a partial body refin. Will be interested to see what more knowledgeable folks observe.

Re: NGD: 1967 Telecaster
1967 should have the body dipped in fullerplast, so no grain pores should be visible (which they are on yours). I'd say complete body refin.
Neck appears original though
