… and I’ve been kinda GASing for one lately. The fact I don’t already have a guitar equipped with one was enough of an excuse to get one.
But I didn’t want something too “metal”, and I didn’t want something “new”.
Found something old, kinda retro, and made in Japan.
I put in an offer last night (having stayed up too late obsessing) woke up this morning to see my offer had been accepted.
Depending on the state of the FR when it arrives, I was considering swapping it out for a Gotoh 1996T as they have very good reviews.

The floyd is probably in pretty good shape under all that gunk. I'd disassemble, clean it up, and put it back together. The likelyhood of there being anything wrong is pretty slim with those things. Then rock out!
This is a good reminder to go and work on my one and only floyd equipped guitar...

I’m eager to get hold of it for that very reason. First thing I’m going to do when it arrives is fully dismantle and clean all the Floyd parts, see if anything needs replacing, probably replace the little string blocks just cos.
What you got with a Floyd? I wanna see! Be happy to have this thread full of Floyd Rose equipped guitars.

Haha! Here you go:
It's the offset no one likes to talk about - a Fender Prodigy.
It came with a Kahler, but it was missing the unobtanium arm specific to that model and was missing half the fine tuners. I had a rebuilt Floyd sitting around from a previously abandoned project and all I had to do was swap out the posts and bushings. The Floyd dropped right in like it belonged there!
I need to swap the pickups back to stock because I'm not really digging the ones I put in there, fine tune the D-tuna, and maybe put a (removable) block on the underside so that I can only have it go down in pitch. Because that's how I roll with strat type bridges.

I’ve never even heard of that model!
Looks sick. I was looking at getting a D-tuna too, worth it?
I was also considering the a “tremol-no” but judging from the fact this body doesn’t have a recess I could probably just block it EVH style for just dive bombs etc.

I had never heard of it either. If you search for it on google, you'll find threads about it here on OSG.
I picked it up from Atomic Music to burn off some store credit and because it felt good in the hands and played really well.
I have a tremol-no (or a copy?) around here somewhere from a previous guitar. I didn't like how it felt or that I could hear the block engage it, so I took it off and just blocked it. Simple solution that worked better.

I probably won’t bother getting one then, cheers for the heads up

Oh! I missed this question - the D-tuna is absolutely worth it! Instant drop D. What's not to like?

That looks sweet! What's that top wood? Looks mapleish but the quilt looks narrower than I've ever seen on maple!
I've owned a few Floyd equipped guitars and although I like the system and the stability, none of them was a keeper in the end. That had nothing to do with the Floyd: they were all guitars with very slim and flat necks with 14" or 16" radius with YUGE frets and I was never comfortable with those necks. I had two Jackson MIJ DK2's and 4 MIJ Ibanez RG's (two 1990 RG550's, one 1992 square heel RG470 and one AANJ RG470).

I love and hate the Floyd Rose
My favorite thing about it is actually the sound—nothing to do with the vibrato function
My least favorite thing is changing strings and also just getting the damn thing in tune (it’s always trying to revert back to where it was earlier)
But once you *do* have it in tune, it tends to stay there remarkably well

I like the d-tuna, and I made all my Floyds dive only. I’m a big fan of that setup. I’m also an EVH guy so that might be why…
Recommended! Floyds require some patience but if you block it to dive only, 85% of the issues most people have go away.

I have no idea what the top wood is, this guitar was being sold by a charity shop so details were minimal. It’s giving me EVH Musicman birdseye maple vibes, but who know what it actually is.
I hear you with the other features of FR guitars being undesirable, the necks especially. I typically prefer chunky necks with 7.25” fingerboards, hence me wanting something less “modern/shredder”. I do have a tele that has a 12” radius which I’m pretty comfortable with.

I’m going into this expecting it to be a huge pain in the arse, and soon as much research of set up techniques as possible.
