What other guitars have you put JM pickups into?

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

What other guitars have you put JM pickups into?

Post by analogsystem » Thu Jul 17, 2008 8:58 am

Wondering what a Novak JM-V would sound like in a guitar with tons of sustain like a les paul or a neck-thru cusom build?  Obviously it'd have to be routed specifically for the JM pup but I can dream right?

I absolutely love the sound of the JM-V in my Jazzmaster but the music I play requires a guitar that's not so plunky sounding.  I was thinking about sticking a JM-V in something different.

How do y'all think it'd sound?
thanks!

i've been thinking about new pickups for one of my guitars that's routed for humbuckers. i'd be interested in jazzmaster pickups if the routing i made to accomidate them wouldn't prohibit me from switching back to humbuckers if i wanted.

I did a few guitars in the past with Jazzmaster pick ups.

One old 60ties Japanese SG copy, Put some CIJ JM pups in it and even a JM trem. Very nice guitar.

This is something I'm working on now.

This is an old Hagström II/III body, mated with a Fender neck (now a All Parts 50ties strat neck) and a JM trem.
Probably gonna put a third JM Pu in the middle. Mid and Neck will be CIJ JM Pu's,where the Bridge will be a Vintage Vibe JM pu.
I now gonna get in the pre-painting stage if the weather permits....

this is probably offset 101 for most of you but what are the dimensions of jm pickup rout anyway?

The pups look OK on that SG, but I don't think there are many other shapes they'd look good on.

But you could do a varation of the standard setup of a Jazzmaster... a quickie would be to plop them in a Jagmaster.  I think the difference in trem systems has a huge difference in tone.

You could do string thru body for even more sustain... use a different scale length neck?  Just tossing out ideas.  :)

I had this combo for a while. Sounded fantastic.... However, I ended up converting the MM back to "stock-ish" condition, and the PU lives with Yannis now.

I know there was a Will Ray Fender Tele that had them in them. Here is a link ----> http://www.cliffsjam.com/HellecasterTeleFrontMID.jpg

They're G&L ASAT pickups, I believe, or a variation thereof. I don't think they're JM pickups, anyway.

EDIT: I think these are what's under the JM-like covers: http://www.glguitars.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=184

Actually, since this is the Fender Will Ray model, the pickups in that guitar ARE Jazzmaster pickups but they are made by Seymour Duncan and have pole pieces which resemble that of what is on the Duncan Invader humbucker and as a result they sound very similar to the Duncan Quarter Pounder Jazzmaster pickups.
