DeArmonds?
Guild makes such amazing pickups, that even if DeArmonds don't play as smoothly as yer Jazzies and Jags, or even Teles, they still sound amazing.
Anybody have a DeArmond? I can get a Starfire with the original pickups for $340 - is that a good deal?

That's a terrible deal - in fact I will volunteer to save you the heartache and I will tell the seller in person how bad a deal that is!PECOAE wrote: Guild makes such amazing pickups, that even if DeArmonds don't play as smoothly as yer Jazzies and Jags, or even Teles, they still sound amazing.

...but seriously, it's really a good deal and I would jump on it if I were you...and I do wish I were you. My bandmate has a dearmond les paul style guitar and it's really really good sounding and playing. It's been at my house for like 8 months now(he plays bass) and the dearmond went from, "why did you bring that crappy thing here" to "why can't I put this thing down?". He picked it up for next to nothing when he worked at Guitar Center years back and they were closing out the Dearmond brand. They are great buys and the Starfire(single cutaway version at least) looks super cool too!
...this is the one I have been playing(set neck) - minus the sparkly finish:

i've got a friend that picked up a Starfire to replace a vintage Gibson that he didn't want to damage touring...he really likes it and I would say it cuts through a bit more, but isn't quite as full sounding. it really sings with a little overdrive !

glimmertwin, that's the same one my bass player has!
it's the one he uses with his own band.

How funny...my bass player uses it for the guitar duties in the band he fronts when they aren't in hiatus(like now).PECOAE wrote: glimmertwin, that's the same one my bass player has!

BIZARRO JERRY ALERT
Anybody seen Seinfeld?

Now I need to convince my dad to let me get two guitars in a week's time, my CIJ Jaguar and the Starfire.
Considering that the only electric guitar I've ever owned is a really old (but not old enough to be vintage, how about that) Kramer with a floyd rose II (
), I think he should.

Vintage or Fender re-issue?
I was playing an old Starfire III (Guild version) the other day and I loved it. $1100 was way too much though. $340 for a vintage one is a great price if it's a good player. Typically $450-500 is what they go for I believe.

Re: DeArmonds?
I had one of the double cutaway Starfires for a while. It had a blonde finish. I thought it looked great, though it weighed quite a bit. The pickups were definitely treble heavy, but they didn't sound bad. Come to think of it though, the body weight and wood may have had a hand at influencing the overall sound, which I pinned on the pickups. I never really felt at home on it so I let it go to raise money for more Jazzmasters
I think it was about 4 or 5 years ago when I sold it.The fellow who bought it was really pleased with it, too

Re: DeArmonds?
Umm... I'm not sure, it's a DeArmond Starfire Special, made in Korea, so it's probably a reissue, but I know they don't make these anymore, so I'm not sure if it's vintage.
Can anybody else tell me?
EDIT: Yeah, it's vintage. MIK - http://www.proaudioreview.com/musician_ ... mond.shtml
It's that one, but way cheap and in black.

Re: DeArmonds?
Guild Starfires are USA and more expensive but yeah, the vintage DeArmond Korean ones are still way cool and typically go for about half the Guild's or around $450. So it's certainly a pretty good deal—provided it's a good player of course.
