Agreed.  This is what we had to get started.  I'm sure it will see many upgrades over time.

Beautiful guitar! I would've gone with a whiter (untinted) maple neck, but that's just me ;). The bakelite guard looks very much better than the stock WBW which comes with these.
Times change.  Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky?  Now it grows hair!  We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger

The body is vintage white, and looks much less white in person than in the photos, which is why we went with the tinted neck.  The bakelite is pretty cool, and the 3 ply BWB would have looked weird against the vintage white.

OK, here it is in action with my 16 year old Nick trying it out for the first time:

It turned out quite nice, I think.  Now my 13 year old wants to do a bass project - black with a gold guard.  Have I trained them well or what ? ::)

I think I feel a Mustang bass restoration project coming on...

Looks nice - your kid is very lucky.  Good guitars don't grow on trees....I'm sounding more and more like my dad every day.....

Thanks!  Look back in the thread for my comments on "appreciation"...and not the kind where guitars increase in value  :D ;D  It's amazing how we don't appreciate many things until we get older (and I certainly am older :o)

I wish my dad had done something like that with me for guitars when I was younger, rather than letting me just mangle the hell out of them and learn to fix them on my own.

And really I love the look of that tele they are such playable guitars, although I sort of bastardize them by putting in  seymor duncan quarter pounds or stacked humbuckers with coil taps. I jsut like them more the the mexican or japanese stock pickups that fender has been putting out.

But that is an impressive build, I got my 1st vintage mustang that way and you're so right its all about the paitence and doing it that way makes you appreciate it that much more.
