Thirded. I love the shredder style soloing but clean. And yes, there’s something really unique about how you pull it together.

Also, to try and reclaim some credibility in the strat world, here’s my ‘62 reissue with an unknown Seymour Duncan in the bridge. It’s fairly low output so pairs well with the neck pup & suits 40 year-old Matt perfectly.

Agreed, really enjoyable playing. I heard a lot of really diverse influences. At one point, there was a simple surf/garage type riff that suddenly ended in a Mason Williams reference. Other times, there were Hendrix riffs with an Yngwie sweep casually thrown in.
Kind of gives me a Greg Koch vibe in the sense that you can see his brain deciding, "what style will this next riff be?" from one moment to the next, though the actual styles he draws from are very different.

The ‘52 you’ve got is the model I’ve secretly always wanted to get. I love the two-tone sunburst and 8 hole guards.

Haha, thanks I used to be a Hendrix freak between age 10 and 16, then came the shredding phase with countless hours of practicing all the 80s Mamsteen related stuff (I've never liked his music, but bizarrely enough I still enjoy practicing his licks), then it all got mixed up with my life long obsession with punk and garage stuff. I dont actually enjoy listening to "guitarist records" very much, only exception being Danny Gatton, I wish I could ble d some of his stuff into my playing. I started focusong more on the songwriting and singing side of music (I'm fronting my own band The Atavists where I take care of all the writing and singing the stuff as well) and it has payed off way more than being able to pull off some crazy "spandex shred" bits )sal paradise wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 3:52 amThirded. Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
I have one. I like the original neck, even if it's beefy. It could be more finished though; a little rought and sqare around the edge of the fretboard.
I dont play it often. Was bought and used for my last band were I had to play some atmospheric stuff. Now, when I play it, a use it on the middle pickup 90% of the time like you. I could see myself sell it to buy a normal Strat since the sustainer is not usefull for me anymore.

I actually ended up selling it to fund some recording gear. The
Sustainer was fun but I really Didn’t Have an active need for it. I also was not a fan of the jb jr. If I needed a sustainer again id probably buy one and swap out that pickup.

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
I just got my strat back from being refretted yesterday. There was a significant hump at the end of the neck and the frets couldn't stand another leveling. My tech let me trade some gear for the work, so I came out not paying anything additionally, which is nice. This thing plays incredibly now. Hilariously low action and I can do two step bends without it fretting out.

Really wish I’d kept my AV65. Kicked the pants off a ‘76 I had.
How come the AV65 Strats come up so little compared to JMs & Jags? Are people just keeping them?

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
I’ve been on a Shadows kick lately and have been appreciating those Hank Marvin Strat + tape echo sounds (and Burns + tape echo sounds).
My own Strat is in time out though. It’s a sound I just can’t seem to make work for me.
