Get a 50's Precision bass
ooh... we may have a winner. I'm really a sucker for maple necks...
A Rhodes?
Tell me where to sign up!
and as for the story on that one, I originally got it for free from our old church, they didn't really want it anymore. I kept it for awhile, it was nice to have but I didn't really use it much, so I traded it for a combo organ. The new band I'm in has a Rhodes in it which my friend also got for pretty cheap, so just keep your eyes open, because they are definitely out there...

What colour tho! the Fiesta red looks absolutely stunning, but the black is sleek and sexy. Theres also a white one as well, but i couldn't find a decent picture of it. Its not as nice as the other two anyway  ;)

Go for a Jaguar bass. They're 650 new I think. Great bass guitars.

well, I'd probably go black  or sunburst, I'm a bit of a traditionalist in that sense. if I did get black, I'd severely consider opting for a black pick guard as well to get the classic Roger Waters look to it :)

What sound are you going for?

I'd personally find something hollow, shortscale and with 10 year old flats on it. Nice and mellow and thumpy.

Not a fan of clackity-clackity-bowwwOwww "Seinfeld" bass.

Id say J bass..

But it depends on what you wanna sound/play..

If you had the $$ Ricki 4001...

P bass is kinda a, follow the guitarist punk rock, bass to me..

But the fuck do I know, Im no bassist.. :).. I like my Squire Jazz, its fun..
I liked my Rcki more, but couldnt justify having a $1600 bass sitting around..
Havign a $300 bass sitting around is better :).. I used to have a P bass as well

I gigged with my MIM Standard fretless Jazz for a year and a half.  Fine guitar for the money.

I personally would go with a P-Bass. I like the look of a J-Bass better, but I prefer the tone of a Precision. If you have small hand, a Mustang is a good option. IMy daughter just got one a couple of weeks ago and it's amazing how much it has opened up for her. She is smallish, and the full-size P-bass she had was just too large for her to handle. She is already a lot of doing things on the Mustang that she could not do, and probably could have never done on the P-Bass.

Precision- and Jazz Basses are safe bets soundwise (though I'm not very fond of Jazz Basses personally). Personally, I'd go for a MIM Classic 50's bass, as those are excellent, but everything in Squier's VM line is worth looking into as well. You get a lot of bass for your money with any of those (both the MIM and the Squiers).

Personally, though, I prefer short scale basses, but it's hard to find good ones at reasonable prices. Most are either cheap entry level basses, or expensive high end instruments. However, the new Ibanez Artcore basses seem interesting, and Danelectros are always cool.

Happy hunting!
