I just thought that because it was the middle strings that were buzzing it might be more to do with the direction of stress on the neck than the resonant frequency. Also, it seems that the truss rod is the only thing you can't directly access to check.

My next move would be to slacken it off as far as you can and see if it still does it - put your finger against the adjustment nut/screw/rod end and see if that changes the buzz at all. If your truss rod is as tight as it can go and your neck is still straight that sounds like a problem to me - you should really be able to make it bow backwards.

I don't think I'll be able to get my finger to the adjuster to see if that changes the buzzing at all but I'll try anyway.  It's probably the only thing I haven't been able to check at this point.  As for the tightening, I may not have it all the way tightened but its certainly very close.  The first thing I did when I got it was take it apart completely to clean up the electronics, remove the tarnish from the frets, and do a fresh setup on it.  I loosened the truss a tad so I had a place to start from and it had to be tightened back down to get the right amount of relief for 11s.  When the neck is off it's straight as an arrow...  there's no twist or ski-jumping or anything else funny to indicate some sort of malady or mistreatment.

Did you try lowering the pickups?  Maybe it's a magnetic pull thing?

Hey, wait a minute!  I'm contributing to the hijack of my own thread!?! :o

They were really low when I first got it so I'll lower them back down and see if it helps but I think that's going to be a long shot.  The D string is probably the furthest away from the strings.

I should probably split this thread I guess...  although the title makes sense and the initial question was answered.

Yeah, we could really begin asking anything of our resident Hagstrom experts at this point.

:D :D

I had another thought - my SG started buzzing all of a sudden a while back, and it took me ages to find out the problem - the nuts on some of the tuners weren't tight enough and were rattling.
