Re: knobs used on tele deluxe and custom...?
Notice how the 70's Deluxe posted by older brother has a little marker next to each knob.
This to me would again suggest that the numbers should be facing inwards (so you can read them when looking down at them).
Strangely though, none of the Tele's posted here have this feature.
Oh sorry, this one has both!!
The one circled in red is the odd one out.......

That deluxe with the bigsby is soo awesome..
Ive never been a huge fan of telecasters but recently the deluxes have caught my eye..
I think I like the start headstock and the 2 humbuckers..

they all have those markers.PorkyPrimeCut wrote: Notice how the 70's Deluxe posted by older brother has a little marker next to each knob.
yes, this is what i meant by facing outwards, i.e. the bottom of the digits are facing the edge of the skirt. like on strat knobs or the white witch hats. we mean the same thing, but define "facing" differentlyPorkyPrimeCut wrote: This to me would again suggest that the numbers should be facing inwards (so you can read them when looking down at them).

Yeah, I figured we were hitting on the same thing.mynameisjonas wrote: yes, this is what i meant by facing outwards, i.e. the bottom of the digits are facing the edge of the skirt. like on strat knobs or the white witch hats. we mean the same thing, but define "facing" differently![]()

This is all becoming very confusing.
I guess, judging by this, that Fender have done away with the knobs we're talking about....

From the official Fender website. Poor attention to detail if you ask me!!
If Dougs around maybe we could get him to use his hunting skills to track down the last of the original black ones to....

FETCH!!....

Type 5 (Strat knobs)?
This could be a replacement job, but I know that the Starcaster went from having the Silver/aluminum knobs to the Strat-type ones in later years (I even have a Strat knob with "Master" written on it, instead of "Volume").

Re: Find Fakes Only Here?
i'm pretty sure those aren't fake. i've spent the day digging through all the pics of deluxes and customs i could find, and the majority have either those knobs or unlabeled amp knobs. the "legit" ones seem to have been used mainly in '72-'73, i haven't found many later ones that have them.

yeah you're right, they switched to strat knobs in '78 i think. but there's not much confusion regarding them...mjet260 wrote: Type 5 (Strat knobs)?

Re: Find Fakes Only Here?
one theory i've come up with during the day is that they got the witch hats (black and white) and the amp knobs from two different sources, and then when they didn't need any more white ones, they figured that since the black ones and the amp knobs were so similar, it would be simpler/cheaper to use the same knobs on both the guitars and the amps. after all, interchangeability and recycling of leftover parts/material seems to have been a bit of a philosophy within fender.

This is some decent info... and now that we've sorta got it figured out I think I'll move this post to general.
