Re: Anyone want to say anything about this "bronco"
God, Fender tried SO hard to fit in during the 80's. The Katana is the best example, next to the whole Heartfield situation.
I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin. But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.

I kind of like the Katana, I think it looks stunning with the dark blue metalflake. It would be great for playing Voltron music, or for a band dressed up like Japanese deities. Would look really interesting with full samurai armor.
The thing is if you don't like that tailpiece you're kind of screwed because it's too hard to replace with something else.

That would be pretty funny, but you would have to get the Squier version because the Fender one is glued-neck. Then you have to somehow forge a 62 neck, and put up pictures of the headstock being cut. A locking nut and tuners which require a maximum amount routing and drilling (resp.) would also be cool. hahahahaId get one of these as a joke.. Then join some snobby fender forum and ask about the best mods I could make for it..
Tell them I wanted to put a vintage 62 Strat neck on it, but I might have to cut the headstock to match.. haha it would be fun

The Performer is another 80's creation that actually have started to grow on me....
It's just the trem and locking nut that gives me a bad rash.

Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

The locking nut on the Performer is no big deal, it comes right off and there's already a regular nut on the neck, so it's really not even a locking nut, just a string locking device. The bridge is a pain though, you can't put any combination bridge/tailpiece because all the holes are in all the wrong places. The pickups are really bland though, no character but they are ok with distortion, kind of like EMGs, but they are passive. There's also a switch to split them and make them sound like very boring single coils.

use an axe, it's more metal. bread knife is too mellow. hatchet is too country.

sledge hammer? kind of industrial. I think a chainsaw could somewhat be 80s cheesy metal, I kind of remember this video.

Re: Anyone want to say anything about this "bronco"
Anyways, back to the topic.
There is definitely something '80s about that guitar, the binding reminds me of the bound Gibson Explorer, Hamers were like that also. The thing is, a slab body Mustang or Musicmaster is not particularly comfortable for the picking arm standing up, so I am afraid that with a bound body it might be worse.
(edit: actually now that I look at it again, it's really not too different from a bound Telecaster, so not necessarily '80s)
