it's a good thing Les Pauls are famously indestructible.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Despite the horrendous packaging job (they did go hog wild on bubble wrap tho in their defence) the guitar arrived unscathed!

Really impressed with the quality of this guitar, Tokai must’ve had the big American companies shaking in their boots back in the mid 80s.

Obviously as the Floyd was a later addition, the nut isn’t perfect, my tech says this shallow shelf was common back in the day, so I won’t try and change it. (If anything I might eventually get a new warmoth neck in lieu of a refret).

I can’t leave anything alone for long so I got the Floyd stripped and cleaned up, and was pleased to see the old ‘Made in Germany’ stamp on the underside of the bridge plate.

And then I removed all the old wiring harness. It had some cool features that I probably should’ve played with, but I knew I wouldn’t have kept them. It seems one of the push pots had a coil spilt, and the other had a boost circuit. Maybe I’ll put the boost circuit back in at some point? Maybe I’ll put it in something else.

I need to shim the neck a bit to bring the action down to a playable level while the ‘trem’ is flat on the body.

Next step d-tuna

Yeah it’s pretty good now it’s all been adjusted. Needs a fret dress, probably the last it’ll get. I still need to wire it up, only spare pot I has is a solid shaft and I have no knobs spare. Might get a split shaft one so I can have a cream speed knob.

I’m not sure, they all seem so expensive for something so simple, I did consider a red one, or the black/chrome looking one.

They definitely are. I do use it a fair amount though! I have the red one. Looks cool on a black guitar 😎

Honestly, I was really hoping that you just wired the pickup straight to the jack. Everyone knows that volume knobs are for the infirmed.

I did consider it. But I do actually use a volume knob on occasion :bored:
I still might go straight to jacks that would be pretty sick

Set up is good, neck shimmed, Floyd is stable, all wired up now ready to rip.
EVH D-tuna ordered.
Fucking love this thing, the neck is chunky 50s strat style with a 12” radius which is something I didn’t know I’d like, but I love it!

So I eventually got around to stringing it up with my lightest gauge (11-54) and alas it was too much for the stock springs. So I ordered some reasonably priced Gotoh high tension springs, and they weren’t kidding! I had to use two of them, and one of the originals.

The old nut screws were very worn, so I figured I’d get new ones, and string clamps too while I was at it. Chucked this pick holder I got as a freebie to add to the “rad dad” aesthetic (JSett assured be it was very dorky).

And finally the EVH D-Tuna. Works very well, now I just need to find a use for it (that isn’t just playing ‘Unchained’).

There's always Drop Dead Legs, too.
