I'm thinking of building this if my current project (a Jazzmaster w no tone knob or rhythm circuit) doesn't make me quit music all together. I was googling (and ogling) the "thin skin" Jmasters, trying to decide what color to do said current project. Found a regal appearance in gold... Then I was drooling over some of the Gibsons on this thread (in particular, that gold Les Paul w the single P-90 and a wrap-around bridge) and this image flashed in my head:

My photoshop skills are weak, I know. But the idea is there. If I can get to the point where I'm building bodies out of solid wood (instead of half wood-filler, from router bits jumping all over, or templates shifting, or guide bearings creeping up the bit's shaft, or me throwing a half-finished body into the street from the garage, etc.) I'm gonna build this thing.

I think I'm gonna do it on a thinner blank, like a Duo Sonic, and go sans contours with a smaller diameter on the roundover bit. I'll call it a "Slabmaster"

I just need to quit my job and move into my garage full-time. People can cut their own hair; my guitars won't build themselves.

Other than the shape of the pickguard, I really like Broncos. Maybe I'll have to build something like one of those someday.

What the heck is that? It's gorgeous and brilliant, but when was it made and what did Gibson call it?

Ditto same here. Finally did a quick search on Wiki and it looks like that's an early 70's SG-100; also looks like they made a dual pickup version, the SG-200 (but that has no place in this thread ;) )

Wiki quote.
"This design held until roughly 1970. In 1971 Gibson released a version with a floating "Les Paul" style pickguard and a front-mounted control plate, no doubt as a cost-cutting measure. "Maestro", "Lyre Vibrola" and Bigsby vibrato (tremolo arm) tailpieces appeared as options and several new models were introduced with this design, such as the low-end SG-100 and the fat single coil dual pickup gibson SG-200 guitars, and the more luxurious SG Pro and SG Deluxe guitars. In 1972 the design went back to the original style pickguard and rear-mounted controls but with the neck now set further into the body, joining roughly at the 20th fret."

There aren't too many single-pickup solidbodies that do anything for me. One of these few is Jonsi's cutsom birds guitar:

I love how the birds come down into the body,
and the last picture with the little girl is so cute it hurts.

So do you want pics of existing guitars, or can I keep throwing my photoshopped ideas on here too? They all have one pickup...

Is it very, very wrong of me to include my self-built guitar in this thread? It's pretty much one of the nicest sounding guitars I've ever owned.

Not if it's your fave.

Interesting pole piece arrangement!

Photoshopped single-pickup guitars and home-made single-pickup guitars are all welcome here! :)

Yeah, Zai - that's the only compromise: at some point I'll fix it, but right now the neck angle means I have to jack the bridge really high to stop the top frets fouling the strings. Corollary to that: the polepieces need to come up as well to get any output. It's a fixed-position pickup, so the polepieces are the only adjustable element.

At some point, probably not until the new year, I'll flatten out the neck pocket to make everything a bit flatter.

It really is, in all other respects, a lovely guitar. I can't stop playing it.
