Re: help me choose a new hollow/semi-hollow guitar
thanks for all the (continuing) replies. This thread helped me to do two things: 1) solidify my interest in the Casino and the Viking; and 2) lead me to realize that there are a ton of great hollowbodies in production right now.
I've since tried a wide range of epiphones (great guitars and, though no one voted for it, the es-175 was particularly super) and ibanez artcores (all of which had a lot going for them). I haven't been able to find gretsches, reverends, dussenbergs, or some of the others to try first hand, but i think there is great evidence to suspect that low-mid price hollow and semi-hollow production is pretty top-notch at the moment.
I'm focusing on the casino, viking, and es-175 (I prefer the epi version to the ibanez ones b/c of the epi's lp-style toggle placement). I'm feeling poor at the moment, though, so...

My Viking Reissue. I got my GF to buy it for me if I promised to put her name on it. I think I hear the sound of a whip cracking in the distance.
