Joe Chambers is playing a Fender. I cant tell what it is. He is next to the drummer to the right.

Could be a Coronado. At first I thought Starcaster but they were not made then.

I've heard they are sort of weak sounding, but I've never played one.
I think the XII versions are a good cheaper alternative to an Electric XII...IMO of course.

Re: What kind of Fender is this?
used to own one. they are nice guitars basically, but the bridge is a PITA because it will just slide away (it's just kept in place by string pressure, sits loosely on top of the body), changing strings is terrible under these circumstances (you'd either have to glue the bridge onto the body or draw circles on the body as position markers) and the stock pickups are... erhm..anaemic. changing pus and having the bridge issue solved in some way would make them usable.

although i'm sure that is a coronado (judging by the headstock shots in the beginning of the clip), it *could* have been a hagström viking I deluxe:

The tailpiece definitely looks like a Coronado.

Re: What kind of Fender is this?
I wonder if Joe Chambers still has it.
I used to go see the Chambers Brothers in the 60's, even before "Time Has Come Today", which was their most famous song, but not in the least their best work, IMHO.
Joe Chambers always played a semihollow body like the Coronado you guys identified, but in those days, I didnt know anything about guitars at all. I started playing when I was 26 and that was in the early 70's, after they kind of faded away.
When I saw them in the Club 47 in Cambridge MA and the Unicorn in Boston, they were electifying.
Their singing in harmony was the thing that made them stand out, not really their guitar work.

Re: What kind of Fender is this?
I have 3 Coronados.
They feel back like a scalded cat if you turn the volume past 3.
Beautiful to look at, feels great to play, once in a while you find one that sounds good.
One of mine has a deep Jazzy sound, another trebly and scratchy, and the third does the Brian Setzer thing perfectly.

Re: What kind of Fender is this?
That makes me think of the Starcaster I played at GC a few years back. It sounded lousy. I know alot of people on this forum drool over Starcasters, but I have had the experience of playing a bad one.I have 3 Coronados.

I think the bolt on is maybe not a good idea for a semi hollow body, not counting of course the Tele thinlines which are always good.
