Guitar rescue

Post by 1946dodge » Sat Apr 05, 2008 3:10 pm

This morning I went to my customary flea market in the parking lot of Building 19 1/2 in Lynn MA.
In the barrel I found an Epiphone acoustic guitar with the head snapped off.
The horrror.
It also had a crack inthe neck near the heel.
I knew these can be repaired so I took it.
Otherwise the guitar looked new.

So I brought it to the GC in Danvers MA and showed it to the repairman there.

He said it could definitely be fixed, but it would cost about 150 bucks which is the price of the same guitar new.
Now I dont want an acoustic - I have a couple and if I were able to fix it myself I probably give it to some friend's kid.

But I dont really have the skill or time to fix it, so I said - you can have it. Surely you can fix it for alot less than you would charge - so you have it.
I just couldnt stand seeing it tosed in the trash."
He was surprised and said "Yea I could and give to my kid or something".

So another guitar was rescued from the trash barrel and will now be repaired and used.

Some dink probably got it somewhere and wanted to sell it at the flea market, dropped it out of his truck and just dumped it.

And that would piss me off.

Wouldn't it be great to know that some day  -  "THAT GUITAR" was the beginning of another Stevie Ray Vaughan for the year 2020
Soooo proud of you for keeping that guitar alive..... I have been making 'cigarbox guitars' and just leaving them around town hoping that some child will pick it up and find it more interesting then drugs or gangs.

You hit the nail on the head my friend.

Every guitar in the hands of a kid gives him or her the chance to learn something they never knew before.

And that is always a good thing.
