Same for me. I have discovered that original vintage guitars don't really get me too excited. It's probably saved me a lot of longing. I had wanted an Emerald green sparkle finish Gretsch duo jet for a long time, and when I finally got one it didn't sound as good as it looked (for my particular style). Getting a sherwood green Custom Shop Jaguar, which is pretty fancy I realize, essentially ended whatever 'list' was in my head. I have bought/had built two pretty significant guitars since then, but most of the thrill is gone.

i want a blocks and binding 60's jag in lpb with matching headstock. That's like the only guitar i truly lust after and i want a blackface pro reverb.
When i get both of those i will sell everything else and just play them period.

I would still have a original '58 Jazzmaster for the thrill of it but I am not in the market for a new guitar anymore. I mostly have the guitar I want; vintage reissue or Custom Shop. Yeah, a old Strat would be nice, but my CS '56 Strat gets the job done quite nicely. I could buy a Les Paul, but since the one I like are super expansive, I can live without it.

Thirdith. I fell into grail bicycles years ago, and more often enough they stay hanging while I reach for the beater. At this point in my life I see grail lusting pointless. Even though I got the shit cheap due to the market then, grail purchases of anything is just a matter of having the money to buy the shit, and timing.

Fourthith, I wanted a Travis Bean for the longest time and now I have an EGC Jazzmaster build that's awesome http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... p?t=110415 and I have an EGC Tyranny build on the way with the giant wide-range Travis Bean pickups in a cream/yellow colour with a satin finished neck that's hopefully going to kill my Travis Bean lust forever. So yeah I've got everything I want and know how to use to the best of my abilities, I'm more working on my actual playing and really concentrating on singing and playing at the same time, harder than it sounds when you're trying to sing in a different time signature to the part you're playing.

I had one grail: I've wanted a jazzmaster since I started playing. And then, a decade ago, I got one, a 62 Ri. And then I discovered that I don't like jazzmasters all that much. I eventually traded it for a fireglo Rick 360.

I pretty much have everything I want, or something that is close enough. The only thing I feel I'm missing is a nice tele, something blonde and lightweight, maybe a whiteguard built to my specs. I think that will probably be the last guitar I'll ever buy.

My bucket list goes:

Mosrite ventures - I have an early kurokumo which are said to be the best playing of all mosrites. So even though not built by semie, I am very happy.

Mosrite combo - I have a 68 and it is glorious. And yeah the kurokumo blows it away as far as playability goes.

Fender jaguar - I have 3, including a 73 (I believe) with blocks and binding.

Fender mustang - Have a 65ri and it is extremely sufficient haha.

Fender musicmaster or mustang bass - I have a 73 musicmaster bass and it is perfect for my bass playing needs. Would only sell it to help fund a vintage mustang bass.

The list of guitars I want is endless but that's my top 5.

just seeing a photo of one for the first time started a search for a guitar that took me almost a quarter of a century to acquire. I managed to get my '56 almost 6 years ago, and it is still the best guitar I've ever played. the honey moon just never ended.

Yes! I thought there might be a few like this...like my Silver Falcon quest...of course it’s as been said above, money and circumstances coming together. I can’t believe it’s been 6 years already? I would have guessed 3.

The other experience, as Bert had, finding a bucket list guitar, and then it not being all you expected. That was my Jaguar quest. I still have one and prefer the looks over a Jazzmaster, but the Jazzmaster just feels and sounds like I want an offset to feel and sound like. I have thought about building a long scale Jaguar more than once, but always talk myself out of it.

If I were a collector and had the time, money, and space for a collection, (I don’t have any of those things) I would probably want a nice Casino and 2-3 more Gretsch, one early Rickenbacker, maybe, but I would probably go for old Lutes and pre-1920s Gibsons over another electric guitar.

My bucket list is pretty much empty for all intents and purposes. I just have the collapsible one, in blue, for mopping and the garden.

The first guitar I truly lusted after was a Maton BB-1200. Was a huge QOTSA fan and I just had to find one like Homme’s. I eventually got one and, to this day, is still the best guitar I’ve ever laid hands on.

But a guitar I’m determined to get my hands on one day is a Dunable. Haven’t really decided on which one. Maybe a Yeti but probably a Cyclops.

Are we related?

1. I also love QOTSA, never been big into the Maton stuff but if I ever find a well-priced Ovation GP i'm going for it.
2. I bought an EGC to get as close to a Travis Bean as possible without paying stupid money, plus way more custom options made it a no-brainer.
3. I bought the EGC instead of a cream coloured Dunable R2, but it was a close contender.

I feel that I'm OK now... I guess I'd like a Gibson J-29, but it's not a front burner issue.

I wonder if I'll catch the vintage guitar thing some day, and if I do, what kind of money will I have to be making in order to satisfy that. So far I am happy with modern instruments.

I suppose this is a white whale guitar that interests me.



I'm going to keep telling myself it doesn't live up to the hype.

The only “holy grail” of mine that I currently own is a 1993 Gibson SG Standard; this checks multiple boxes of mine, as I’d wanted an SG Standard since I was eleven and I also really wanted an early 90’s Gibson. It’s my favorite guitar I’ve ever owned.

I also really want a vintage Fender short scale offset, specifically a Musicmaster II. That’s the next one on the list. After that, someday, a Gibson Les Paul Custom.

I try to balance what I view as my holy grail guitars with reality. I could waste my days fantasizing about owning a ‘62 Jaguar, sure, but I doubt I will ever, ever be able to afford any guitars in that price range. That relates to my early 90’s Gibson fetish as well; I don’t foresee myself ever having the scratch on hand to afford a ‘67 SG Standard or something of the like. So, in short, I try to keep my fantasies in check.

Maybe a Fender Custom Shop someday. But probably not a new one
