71 tele truss rod sticking out of the neck?!

See if it turns freely, it may be loosened all the way

It may have been shimmed (or over-shimmed,) if it was maxed out. Not necessarily a bad thing, if it works.

I had a Musicmaster Bass that had the same thing going on. The truss rod still worked fine.

Is this a Tele you own or plan on buying?

it's a tele I bought.

Had a lot of red flags, changed parts.. was sold as all original, and it was anything but. it looks to be a partscaster with vintage parts/reissue parts.

Was a real let down, not worthy of a NGD post.

The partial refund via paypal makes kinda up for it.

The truss rod turns, its not fused or anything.


Now i am debating selling the guitar with the issues described more clearly, or part it out.

I have a few pieces of it chilling on reverb, at high but fair prices with best offer open, seeing what the cat drags in.

Will in time my friend, I've got a few NGD's backed up already

I cannot get the truss rod nut off, it just turns.. it's sticking out half an inch from the neck... I can tighten it and it goes until it is flush with the body..

Anyone seen this before?

Is the nut spinning or the rod spinning?

nut turns, and comes out to like a 1/2", but just spins after that, and doesn't come off

I can tighten it right down to flush with the neck.

I also hear creaking when adjusting

Does it move the neck when you tighten it down?

It’s sounds like the truss rod has let loose from the anchor and the nut is cross threaded and turning the rod itself, I’m not sure but that’s what it sounds like. Try to grab the nut and see if it pulls out.
