I just got an old beat up Strat body from my drummer, he owns a music store in NH and someone brought it in. It's original thin nitro 2-tone suburst is barely hanging on. It's not a Fender, it's a Charvel... but not a San Dimas Charvel. It's from before that when Wayne Charvel had a small shop in Azusa, I'd say anywhere from '74-'76. It pre-dates Boogie Bodies. It's made out of Ash like they all were back then. This is some real geeky stuff here. Basically this body is from the same exact build era of the famous EVH Frankenstein Strat. Pretty cool...
Now do I rout it for a humbucker or not? Strip it and refin it? Sell on Ebay? hmm... It does need some minor repair. The 6 holes for the trem go thru to the other side and they were patched/doweled at one time.

Sell it or leave it as is. I really like how it looks right now.

Damn, that's cool! I agree, sell or leave it... if you want to use it I'd go blade/mini-hum. That thing's gotta be worth some serious coinage given how expensive some of the early Charvel stuff is these days so routing it's outa the question IMO.

I just sent an email w/ photos to Wayne Guitars for verification. I'd think this body would be worth a pretty penny to the serious EVH nut. I'm gonna leave it alone. It's a really nice piece of Ash... not light but not heavy.

Personally, I'd use it. That'd be the perfect body for my Frankenstrat.

Unless you are a dyed-in-the-wool Charvel fan, ebay that thing ASAP. Speaking as an affecianado of all guitars that are pointy, you are looking at $1000+...the auction on that will be insane...if you like, run it by the guys on the JCF Forum to get a take on what it might bring...

I think it looks great, and would look killer all set up, but if it's worth $1K+, I'd 'Bay it for sure.

Why are Charvels from this time particularly desirable?

I think Wayne Charvel is credited as developing the super-strat to a degree. That plus the EVH connection I suppose.

Okay, now that I have figured out that EVH is NOT some brand that I hadn't heard of, I understand this a lot better.
