Dimensions of late '60s Telecaster logo

Post by UlricvonCatalyst » Fri Jul 10, 2020 1:09 am

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone out there who has a late '60s Custom Tele, with this style of logo....

Image

....could do me the enormous favour of measuring the length, either of both words separately, or from the F of Fender to the R of telecaster. Measurement in millimetres would be much appreciated.

Alternatively, maybe somebody has a link to a site with official dimensions of the various logos used over the years?

This is for a custom logo for my Syd Barrett 'tribute' guitar - NOT, I must stress, a counterfeiting operation, but rather a custom-designed logo our Mark has magicked up for me. Just want the proportions to sit right on the headstock.

Hope someone here can help me with this.

Hey....I very quickly Googled "correct telecaster decal dimensions", switched to "Images" and these came up...

Both are from 1973.

I'll let you decide on a number although I'd imagine anything around 3.75" would work fine :)

Three and three-quarters old-money inches it is. Do you know any steam-punks with an imperial version of Adobe Magic Lantern you could feed your graphic into?

By the way, I found this interesting reading. It seems litho-print could be the way to go if I can find anyone who'll do it. Makes me really glad I didn't go with 'Faker' !

The decals sold by Rothko & Frost I used for my project are litho-print. Simple to apply but very delicate. You'll need to spray some kind of clearcoat over them though. Rubbing Tru-Oil & the like over the top will most likely destroy them. I was lucky in having some old clearcoat left over from my pedal building days.

Right, hadn't got round to visiting R&K yet. I have a friend who works in the Glasgow Print Studio - was going to ask her if anyone she knows does the litho thing - shop local and all that.

Cool.

Just make sure they have the right gold ink too. I deliberately went with the Rothko folks because they're guitar specialists & know exactly which colours to use.

Plus one for R&F, I've got a few logos from them and they always come out nicely.
