Ian Curtis' Vox for sale

So for anyone with a love of Joy Division and a spare £80,000, Ian Curtis' Vox Phantom for sale at Bonham's, directly from his daughter's collection. Estimate £60-80,000. Not bad bearing in mind it's said he could only play D major on it.

Not sure if I'd actually want it, personally, though. Perhaps a bit too voodoo for my liking. I'd much prefer Keith Levene's long lost veleno, I think. Still genuinely iconic.

It's the one in Electrical Audio. Which means it was used on Public Image *and* In Utero. Had Gibson P90s for a bit but now back to stock. The Levene Wedge was at EA too but was sold, I believe Vincent Gallo has it now. Both guitars were sold by Levene to Chelsea Guitars in NYC in the 80s.

Funny..you wouldn't think it was that valuable since he wasn't the guitarist.

Yes I remember him offering silly money for a wedge years ago on all the forums. He also asked to buy John McGeoch's guitar from me. Likes his post punk guitarists..

About what you'd expect really, it's a pretty iconic guitar and loads of people are obsessed with Joy Division

The daughter sold it, right? Even it was the wife, hard to blame them for wanting to move some of his stuff along. I'd guess they've comes to terms with Ian's suicide given how long ago it was. But at the same time, the wife was very young and the daughter an infant when it happened. That was a lot to put on them, and quite a legacy for them to defend and tend to over the years. Seems right that something valuable from all that might get them some money they can use for something.

And I thought it was a tad dear at £80, 000. Ironically, more or less dead on the average house price in Manchester at the time of writing. Wish I could trade a guitar for a house.

Off topic, anyone else here see him playing it? I know David Shadowplay and me have, just curious how many other Dadrockers we have here who can say "Back in my day you only had to know D major to be an icon".
