2018 epiphone casino - turqoise
I am an Epiphone casino guy. they're probably my favorite non-fender guitar to play. For the longest time I had a natural finish one that I fell out of sorts with because the finish was so lifeless. no grain presence, bland light wood that made the binding invisible. the older Korean natural finish casinos look so nice, but mine looked so blah. I sold it with the plan of finding a casino that spoke more to me.
So I picked up this turquoise one used at my local long & McQuade. I have had it for a few months now and I love it. It plays and sounds fantastic. the colour is a lot more up my alley.
I bought a cheap Chinese pickguard for it which I think works better. went with pearl (although I was debating tort).
I am not a big fan of pau ferro necks, but I like this one. It's got a pretty nice deep brown and some nice grain patterns on the upper half.

i think i will transfer the E logo onto the new pickguard at some point.

Looks great. Hey, are you able to tell us the nut width on there?
I think the Pau ferro looks good with the green, though.

Do you mind sharing where you got the pickguard?
I’d like a black one for mine (same year MIC) but I can not make heads or tails of which one will fit.

thanks! nut looks to be 42-43 mm. Same as my JM.

Yeah there seems to be a lot of variation for casino pickguards when i was searching. I went by the measurements in the pics and this one seemed like it would work. it's not exact same specs as the Epiphone stock one, but it's close and if you center it around both pickups then it works well enough. I preferred that there no holes, that way I could place it on the guitar and drill the holes for the best fit.

Thanks for the link.
Great looking casino by the way, does it have the very thin D profile neck? Mine has it and took some getting used to but I’m also not a guy who gets all bothered by this or that neck shape, I just kinda roll with it and end up adapting as required when I like a guitar.
Do you find the pickups overly hot? My pickups measured right around 9-10k which I think is somewhat “medium” in terms of typical P90 output. I hear the imported pickups frequently get shit on but I am very happy with mine for what it’s worth.

yeah it has the same neck as you describe. It felt different initially, never having played a d shaped neck before, but i do like slimmer necks so i find it very easy to play now. I also go between different feeling guitars a lot so it's no big deal.Dave wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 12:13 pmThanks for the link.

As for the pickups i find them just right. I mean p90s are going to have a bit of a bite, so they come as advertised. Still i find the sound nice and clean too. the pickups are definitely something that drew me to casinos in the first place.
not sure if you had a chance to check, but it looks like that seller also sells black casino pickguards.

Turquoise looks so good on those, the way it goes with the binding is just perfect. I missed out on a couple MIK turquoises and ended up getting a Blue Denim in the new Casino Worn series, which I like but I don't love like I would with a Turquoise. Love it.

Looks great. I've been playing a Casino a lot lately too. Mine is a Samick copy, but it does have a center block, so I guess its only a Casino in looks?
I think I prefer the original pickguard though.
But yeah, nice guitar.

I've been thinking about buying a Casino... I hated the one I used to have, but this one looks a million times better. And it seems like the neck width is wider, so I could actually play it.
Also, it looks like I won't be selling my Ilitch noise cancelling device for hollow bodied guitars, so I guess I have to buy another guitar to use it in. Such are the breaks, I guess.
