Uh oh Fender... Instagram accusations of being misogynistic

Post by stonevibe » Fri Feb 26, 2021 5:45 am

Fender has been accused of being inappropriate again, what do you guys think?

Is this the way to describe two Jazzmaster? Or a thinly veiled misogynistic statement?

The guitars look awesome, but the Insta post was in poor taste.

Personally, I find the talk of guitars as sex objects, and especially as women, creepy. I know it was the norm at one time but that kept me away from guitarists and guitar media when I was younger and it was friggin everywhere. I saw camillas story when she posted it and feel she used a lot of tact.

I appreciate the sentiment, but the statement's in poor taste. You wanna anthromorphize guitars, that's fine -- hell, I do it to much weider stuff -- but if you're going there then don't be sleazy and weird about them.

Besides creepy and sleazy, it's not harmless in my opinion, but as a non-Brazilian man, I don't think it's up to me to decide whether it's harmless or not.

Yep. On the face of it the caption might not seem that bad to some people, but in the context of a guitar culture that’s still pretty sexist, yuck.

maybe harmless is a bad choice of words. More like lame, but not outrage worthy.

Rampant and persistent misogyny is one of the many ways the world is on fire right now.

This isn’t “Grab em’ by the pussy” level stuff, but it’s indicative of an attitude that needs to change.

I didnt realize it was refering to Brazilian woman before I read this thread... It's misogynistic humor of bad taste, but I am sure many people didnt understanding that way, espacially for people where english is not their primary language.
