Fender Telecaster Deluxe

Post by jonny-devo » Wed May 14, 2008 2:31 am

Hi!
I'm thinking about buying a Telecaster Deluxe. The Problem is that I can't find nothing but the mexican ones. Aren't there any current alternatives (Japan or USA)? The point is that I have less trust in mexcan manufacture and the originals are to expensive.

cheers

Jones

I think Fender Japan makes them too, but only for the Japan Market IIRC - the MIM is the only international available - If you don't go vintage (but that's a total different price range)

:)
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

There are some nice lawsuit era ones if you can find them but the quality is still on par with the Mexican ones realistically.

I have a Mexican one, and it is a wonderful instrument.  I think the quality of the MIM stuff is better than the Japanese.  The pots and pickups are much better, and the fit and finish is just as nice.

There's just too much lacquer on the necks and bodies of the MIM ones, the headstock shape is all rounded and blobby.

Look:

And the body feels the same way. Seems to be a trait of the MIM stuff

Personally, I love the glossy finish on the neck of my MIM.  It's not lacquer, it's actually polyurethane. :)

Try Subway guitars in the SF/ bay area:

scroll down about half way and you'll see his deluxe for about $450....I think they make them out of NOS parts from all over.  I have heard mixed reviews about these but I'm sure you could get whatever you want from them.

Names on the QA stamps on my AVRI neck and body are Moreno & Sanchez respectively. I have plenty of faith in them! I have a '72 MIM Thinline, which I tend to play more than my JM!
As for the liberal application of lacquer...

I always notice how random the logo placement is on early 70s Teles. Weird innit? Not to mention how the E and R in telecaster are weirdly spaced on both our guitars.
