oh man– is it the "pepto-pink" they used back then? $3K seems a bit high, even for an SC-1, but i'm sure it's cool as hell.Dok wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 1:26 pmBy sheer coincidence I was at the local guitar shop dropping off my P-bass for repair and they have one of these for sale, DEAD mint, in pink no less. Only asking $3k but they encouraged me to make an offer.Professor Bill wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 6:09 amI've been watching this one, as I have a thing for Band of Susans: https://reverb.com/item/41934536-g-l-sc-1-1982-white

That thing is beautiful!RIORIO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 9:22 amI present an impossibly rare '83/84 Cavalier in the most insane Trans Blue finish and ultra-rare hardtail configuration:
I've never seen a finish change so much in different lights! Moral of the story is- you can't go wrong with early G&L's- they just feel special

Voila!
Certainly an interesting one. The neck feels LPC-esque with the painted back and ebony board. Flat frets too- total 70's Gibson vibe happening. Pickups sound fantastic after some tweaking
Only irritating thing is that a previous owner has decided to 'touch up' some bits. What's the best way to get rid of this without affecting the nitro? I'm not too bothered, but it is a bit splotchy.

So this thing is great.
But when, WHEN WILL I LEARN I AM NOT A STRAT PERSON?
So whilst I'm happy to keep it, I think it's gonna go back on the market as I try and seek out a keeper Tele.
Anyone got any idea re: those splotches?

Re: G&L SC-3: talk to me
I've tried Strats and Strat-like things a few times and always say the same thing. I got used to first knob being so close to the strings (on a Fender) but never could deal with the floating trem, although I wish I could do that Jeff Beck thing. I tend to rest my hand on the bridge, so that just doesn't work.
I recently picked up a Tele 72 Thinline reissue that has a Strat trem and I thought it probably wouldn't work for me. But this one was set up with the trem decked and that might be the way to do it – better tuning stability and I really only use the trem for subtle warbles.
What's your Strat issue? The trem? pickup arrangement?

I too lean my hand, and I just have no use for a middle pickup really.Professor Bill wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 7:07 amI've tried Strats and Strat-like things a few times and always say the same thing. I'll have one for the stable at some point, but being without a Tele and with a Strat makes no sense to me. Needs to be Tele first then Strat in!

Sounds like it's time for an ASAT, then.

All good choices, but if you're into ASATs/Broadcasters and offsets, maybe consider the SC-2 (vintage or reissue) as well. It's just an ASAT with a straight-waisted Mustang body instead of a Tele body. There's a brand new, USA-made SC-2 on Reverb for $999 which is just stupidly cheap. I'd take a G&L over any production model American Fender in terms of build quality and QC any day of the week.JamesSGBrown wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:58 amMy choices are either an 80's ASAT (or a G&L Broadcaster if I win the lottery!), an 80's MIJ or, what I'm holding out for, an AVRI '62 Tele Custom in black.

Perhaps even quicker, maybe just have a blend knob put in for the bridge or neck pickup, or install 7 way switching. Then you can get the neck and bridge pickup together.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Re: G&L SC-3: talk to me
ASAT (Specials) are cool and have some of my favorite single coils ever. Whilst I can't prove it I'm of the opinion that Leo was trying to achieve a similar goal with both the Jazzmaster and ASAT pickups. They certainly don't sound the same, but both are aiming to produce a wider magnetic field than typical single coils and reference a greater distance of string movement. The fact that they go about this using (by the standard of guitar pickups) radically different construction is all the more interesting to me.
