I've had this for 33 years. It survived my 20's and is still my number one. Riffs and songs fall out of it and it always feels right. Also, the MFDs have a lot of sonic business going on. G&Ls are kind of like secret weapons.

Is that a saddle-lock bridge (non-trem)? Was that an option on SC-3s back in the day? I've said many times that's the best non-trem bridge there is and is a huge reason for me wanting to get another G&L some day.

Sure looks like it, and I know they put those on ASATs sometimes.

That bridge is the reason I have a G&L Jazz bass and not a Fender.

I've been watching this one, as I have a thing for Band of Susans: https://reverb.com/item/41934536-g-l-sc-1-1982-white
There were only ~250 of those made. Grab it!

find one of the early ones that uses the same body shape as the SC-2 and SC-1, then you've got a strat and mustang killer in the same guitar ;)

i've never been able to play a vintage G&L–an original SC2 or SC1 is one of the only guitars i still lust after, but they've basically doubled in price over the past decade and i'm perpetually broke...and also you never see them anywhere– i've played a few newer ASAT specials (tele with the larger MFD pickups) and am firmly in the "fender but better" camp.

get it!

Apparently saddle-lock bridges are really rare on these SC-3s. Sunburst was rare, too. It has that odd black krinkle finish on the bridge, neck plate, and control plate.
Weirdly I owned a second one of these (it was black) in the early 90's. What were the chances?

Well guys, I think I'm gonna spring for it. It can fill the strat-shaped hole in my collection... stay tuned!

I had one for a time I bought off tribi9. '86 or '87 IIRC.

How does it compare to a JM, sound-wise?
I would say it doesn't, aside from being a single coil guitar with a 25.5" scale. It didn't even really sound 'like a Strat', they're definitely their own thing. A very, very good thing.

This is all true. When I saw the sunburst and the saddle-lock, I thought, "that's the only SC-3 I've ever seen like that." Really cool.

By sheer coincidence I was at the local guitar shop dropping off my P-bass for repair and they have one of these for sale, DEAD mint, in pink no less. Only asking $3k but they encouraged me to make an offer. :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

While we're showing off (and talking up) our cool/rare early G&L's

I present an impossibly rare '83/84 Cavalier in the most insane Trans Blue finish and ultra-rare hardtail configuration:

I've never seen a finish change so much in different lights! Moral of the story is- you can't go wrong with early G&L's- they just feel special

Ok- derail over. Hope you love your SC3!

Sure enough, no Swamp Ash, Trans Blue w/saddle-lock Cavaliers are listed over at the G&L registry. Crazy rare. That thing is beautiful!
