NGD: ASAT Special
I’ve been on a bit of a purge lately, happily I might add, when I saw this on CL.
I checked here for some insight into G&L guitars, I’ve never played one but
they sounded great so I set up a meet. The owner was looking to trade for
a loud Fender amp and I had a Pro Reverb that was realistically never going
to be used at any place I might play, he wanted it for his rehearsal space
and was up for a straight swap.
My first impression of the ASAT was just what everyone said, even with dead
strings and needing a set-up it was as good if not better than any US Fender.
Fit and finish, pickup sound variety, general feel, all first rate.
After more digging around I think I’m on the lookout for a Doheny!

That's wonderful- when was it made?
I predict you will fall under the spell of G&L like most people do. That was a great way to start, also. Congratulations!

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Thanks man. I believe it's a 1997.
I thought it was way dark until I realized it was tuned down
a whole step. Ha. Properly tuned it lit up.

yup yup yup yup
I'm sure the Doheny is a great guitar - I haven't gone out of my way to play one but that's basically because it doesn't have a Saddle-Lock bridge. Other than those lovely MFD pickups, that's THE reason to get a G&L, as I'm sure you've seen me mention in every other G&L thread on here. Congrats on the PERFECT guitar!!!

Re: NGD: ASAT Special
I am really bonding with this guitar, its a keeper.
The guy who traded the amp with me also loves the amp.
He took it to practice and couldn’t set it over 2, it is the
loudest non Twin I ever heard.
I love a happy trade.

Fantastic guitar - They have some of my favorite single coils in them and I love that bridge design too.

Guess who just added a new guitar to my Reverb feed. Guess what it is.

I love them. Those pickups have so much character. Good score.
