NGD: 67 Coronado II - LPB

Post by JSett » Wed Aug 31, 2022 6:59 am

I don't get why everyone moans about the pickups on these...after a good setup, and winding the poles out so they're closer to the strings, it sounds great! Like a really woody Jazzmaster. Sounds great with the Rat or Sunface...with more than a little feedback as a side-salad. Maybe it's one of the 'good ones *shrugs shoulders* maybe that's why it's clearly been played a lot....

(Pictures taken straight out of the box while the light was good. The bridge is back where it belongs :D)

With the rest of the gang...

Non-original tuners and the massive hole in the back are a bummer but oh well :D

It did get shipped in this rather opulent semi-rigid gigbag though, that also seemed to have an old Shubb tucked away in one of the pockets with some picks...

That is absolutely gorgeous. I don't think the back panel would bother me all that much, and I'm sure it's not a huge detriment to the sound. You're still getting the top vibrating and the sound of those pickups.

Wow that thing is cool! The wear showing the original colour under the yellowed clear coat is sensational. I didn't even notice the backplate first time round until I read your post, it's nicely done. And now it's there I guess it will make future jobs on the guitar easier.

I'd love to hear how it sounds if you get the opportunity.

I can attest to what a massive pain in the ass it is, fishing pots through those "EFFFF(YOU!") holes! Not at all surprised, when I see routing on the backsides of these. :D

Goddamn, though. That thing is BEEEEAUTIFUL! Looks right at home. Nice score 8)

Yeah, I don't really care at all, I'm certain I'll be thankful for it at some point!

Sure, here's a really crappy phone demo that's slightly out of tune, improvised and I'm wearing dirty sweatpants :D

My pal Gary had expressed dibs before I made it known here, but he doesn't like spending money on anything so take that with a pinch of salt :D

For real! Where do you find these jewels?!! Ever heard Johnny Jewel? That's how I think of you.

I thought I hated hollow bodies because they always sound awful, muddy, indistinct, thunky, and dead. But hot dog! That thing sounds lovely! I like the middle position a lot.

Congrats & enjoy! Sounds wonderful! :? How's the neck thickness - thin, C, or chunky? Asking for a friend...

I felt that way, too. Then I got turned onto Gretsch guitars. I love Filter'Tron pickups (or TV Jones TV Classic pickups) as well as the the outstanding Dynasonic single coil pickups (or TV Jones T-Armond single coil pickups). Changed my life! 8)

I'd say a little thicker than a usual 60's C...a touch chunkier than a Jazzmaster of the same era. Very comfortable
