There's definitely a way to make that easier to string, and possibly convert into a vibrato

The best way to deal with that R tailpiece is to sell it to some sucker, and if you want to have a vibrato, Winfield Vintage has the solution:

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I really like the look of the R tailpiece, it's kinda iconic. It's a shame no one has thought to make an aftermarket vibrato based around that design.

We'll see. I'm getting more used to living without one anyway the more I play my Tele and my Guild.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Sounds like you need a vibRato

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I hated the Winfield vibrato: the strap peg needs to be redrilled for the right angle, the vibrato just felt fragile, I was always worried that I'd put the sharp trem arm tip through my palm, etc. so I took it off within weeks of putting it on (but I'm not a big vibrato user at all).

It's impossible to get new R tailpieces so, as Larry said, tempting to just flip it for the cash. Put the flag sticker from the pickguard on there for extra Rickensilliness.

Definitely my favorite guitar of all time.
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

I decided to do an intentionally boring audio demo of mine to show what it can do. Please enjoy (mostly) the same riff.

Left channel: 1963 Ampeg Jet mic'd with a Sennheiser e609.
Right channel: Vox Night Train 15 into an Egnater 1x12 cab mic'd with a Sennheiser e609.

Clean: Bridge / Mid / Neck
- SD Pickup Booster: Bridge / Mid / Neck
- Hot Cake Clone: Bridge / Mid / Neck
- EQD Special Cranker: Bridge / Mid / Neck
- Freakshow Rabbit (Rat Clone): Bridge / Mid / Neck

Sounds great. Someday I’ll have one in Jetglo. It’s definitely a bucket lister.
They’re hard to score in my neck of the woods.
