That ^ is lovely indeed. Too many knobs has always been my biggest problem with the Deluxe. Great solution!
I never understood that about Deluxes. They are the same pickups in both bridge and neck positions. You could do a master volume and tone no problem. I'm sure Fender was trying for some of the Gibson market, but still. That's something that kills me about my Custom: too many knobs, but with a Tele single bridge and a WRHB in the neck, it might not sound as good to make it a master volume and tone...

But also, that Gibson style knob layout is confusing! Why are the neck controls on top, and the bridge on bottom. The neck controls should be the two in front and the bridge should be the two in rear. Nevermind that I'd never need two volume knobs. Unless you are running active pickups or some kind of a preamp/boost circuit, four knobs, is at least one to many. Master Volume, Master treble cut, and optionally a knob or switch to cut bass. That's all I'd ever need (not including various pickup switching schemes).

I agree. I've never liked having multiple volume knobs, that's why there's a pickup selector switch :D I don't know how people handle Gretsch guitars where they (some models) have a volume for each pickup AND a master volume. At least, I don't have to fight with instincts about how Gibson lays out their volume and tone knobs, as I've never had a Gibson/Epiphone of any kind.

We have updates!!! Yes, black is really not the most thrilling colour. Should be with me Tuesday. Naughty that it’s nitro. Also not 3 bolt neck, so who cares.

Still need to drill the neck for bolts, tuners & string trees. But it's finally going to be ready...! Excited :w00t:

Nice to see progress.

I don’t subscribe to the idea that black is ‘boring’. It has a timeless, understated class that i like.

Where did you get the body? As a lefty, i’m always interested in good places to source stuff.

Edit: you mention Guitarbuild in your first post. It’s been a while!

Soooo…. Not long!

Who knew that allparts necks are not drilled for F tuners. (JSett introduced me to a new form of reaming to solve that.) Oh, and repro F tuners don’t fit allparts necks. Need to figure out a way to sand down the edges a tiny amount so they actually fit.

Image

Other than that, we’re all wired & drilled. I learnt how insane it is to fit a tele jack cup so ordered an electrosocket. Decided I fancy giving the setup a go on this as there’s only a few variables. Oh, plus the million ways to adjust the pickups. Got a nut arriving in the post soon.

Looks amazing!

So weird - and frustrating - about the tuner holes. I’ve got the same model of Allparts neck on a Strat build, and the holes were perfect for F-tuners. (That was almost 10 years ago).

I’ve had to grind down tuners to fit other necks, however, and the trusty old Dremel fairly works well for the task.

electro socket is the way the jack tv is a thing you need a special tool for mount it (i have try it and will never redo )
for f tuners depend how drilled is the neck sometimes it work sometime not (kluson style tuners seems to have 2 standard too less than 24 mm of larger between 2 screws and more than 24 mm then is hard to retrofit the less larger with the more)
love this classic look

Yeah, it’s crazy there is a special tool. I wonder how they do it in the factories these days, it seems a crazily manual process for something so easily done more efficiently.

Interesting about the tuners. I don’t have a dremel, but will ask neighbours! I’ve done a lot of new diy type tasks on this guitar, so cool to add another one.

On the note of diy… some haphazard work has gone into headstock transfer/clear coat, wiring & drilling holes for pickguard/bridge/strap buttons/neck. I never learn to slow down and plan, ensure correct tools & measure simple things rather than do it by eye (strap locks & string trees :fp:). A few years ago I still found swapping a pickup pretty stressful, so I’m pleased to be improving. But probably shouldn’t use £1200 of partscaster to learn on :D

Progress.

The nut is sitting crazy high & alignment of e string is too close to the edge of the fingerboard. Gonna leave it for a day with the strings on & come back to it tomorrow. I think this will be the first & last guitar I try and piece together from parts without skilled help :D

I have a whole new respect for guitar assemblers now, let alone building one 🙏

Wow yeah, I can see the nut height from here! hah. Time to play it like a dobro.
