Guild Kim Thayil signature Polara/S-100 coming up
Just saw this on the Guild forum.
Thread here:
https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php ... ng.217687/
Been considering a Polara for years now, if these sigs (who deserves this more than Kim?!) are priced nicely, I'd have to get one.
White with gold Hardware?! YES PLEASE

You got pics? Or a link?
I’ve wanted an s-100 as well. All because I saw an article with this guy and his in guitar world years and years ago. Circa 2009-10?

I’ve played a few over the years in guitar stores and absolutely loved them, but haven’t owned one yet.
I’d love to see a reissue of the s100 with the oak leaf carvings on it.
I loved Soundgarden in high school, although I haven’t listened to their albums in years. Kim’s riffs were massive.

Kim is indeed one of the riffiest riffers that ever riffed.
I hope this guitar ends up being pretty rad.

I have owned a couple of these over the years and they shred, the Dearmond MIK version is REAL nice for the under $700 price they go for on reverb.
I loved Soundgarden's early material, loud as love being my favorite of their stuff. I guess at a certain point I just didn't care for them anymore.

I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

Re: Guild Kim Thayil signature Polara/S-100 coming up
Well deserved and long overdue. He seemed to be the only contemporary person I associated with Guild for a long time. (Later followed by Feist, James Mercer from the Shins, John Doe, Mick Harvey). But Thayil makes magic with a Guild and Peavey amp - both being unusual choices.
Early ‘garden was good (although if you listen closely, you can hear Chris Cornell not wearing a shirt) and Badmotorfinger is one of my favorite albums of the era (and the only one of theirs I return to). Such a huge and heavy record.

I’m interested to see this reissue. Any links or images?
Louder Than Love was a real eye-opener for me at the start of 11th grade. I still listen to it occasionally and I still love it. The songs are tight and the riffs are heavy, but they’re still clowning around like in their earlier stuff.
Badmotorfinger, on the other hand, is when they stopped trying to be funny and shit got serious. That record is an era-defining masterpiece. It still sounds new today.
I saw them live on those two tours, and they were astonishing. in ‘91 Kim played a black LP Custom for some of the songs, and a white Guild on most of them. He had full Peavey stacks then but I think the ‘89 show was a mishmash of different amps. Chris Cornell played Mesa Boogies when I saw them in ‘91, which I held against him at the time. “Cornell is a sellout, but Thayil’s keeping it real!”
Anyway, listen to Badmotorfinger real loud. It’s pretty amazing.

I love Thayil and the S-100, but arguably the most interesting thing about this news/that thread is that Guild will be producing USA-made electrics again! First time since, what, the 90s?
Would be very interested to see if this will eventually include some other models too, Starfires etc.

I am surprised this hasn't happened already to be honest.

Re: Guild Kim Thayil signature Polara/S-100 coming up
There was a great interview where Kim spoke about his guitar style being the beneficiary of playing in a band with three other songwriters. He had to learn each of their styles as well as his own to add riffs to, so developed 4 different flavours to play with.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Definitely GAS inducing. I might take a serious look at this. It could dethrone my SG Standard.
If it’s anything like the Polaras I’ve tried in the past few years, it should be excellent.
