All that glitters is... SILVER
Been a long time coming, this one. About 25 years to be more precise. It's a '96 Sparkle Jet loaded with some Dearmond Dynasonics. It sounds like my Telecaster and P90 Les Paul combined... perfection! One of the knobs has been replaced with a newer chrome one and it's already driving me nuts! Gotta find an older nickel one to match the others. I really like the neck on it. It is pretty thin, but has a wider feel because the shoulders are pretty full. Kind of a U shape I suppose. I'm pretty impressed with how all of my fuzz pedals and boosters handle the Dynasonics. I've read a lot of mixed things. My ears tell me that they work great together though. The pictures are crap... my basement has garbage lighting and it's dark outside.

Oh wow! It looks fantastic. Good score! I’ve always loved the look of these, but have never played one. I’ve only played Duo Jets. I’m assuming they’re pretty much the same, save for the finish, no?
I don’t see any offsets around. I do see a Bass VI pickguard in the background though.

My Jazzmaster and Jags are in racks on the other side of the room It’s been a while since I had a VI though. I’d love to get another but I never seem to use them enough.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 3:42 am

Hell Yes. I got my duo jet (Player's series w/ Filtertrons) a few months ago and I can't put it down. Welcome to the club!

Thanks! Those are the most used stuff that I have. Right in arms reach!
Thanks!! I am still surprised by the feel of it too. I normally like a thick, chunky neck, which this is not. But it feels really nice. I need to clean up the nut slots a bit to help hold tuning a bit better with the Bigsby. Maybe a stiffer spring too. The Bibsby on the ‘60 6119 that I have is really still and I’ve come to prefer it over the years.

Congrats! I had an early-mid 2000s one for a time - loved the mahogany body and mine had a decently chunky neck if I recall. Like Fenders, I horse-traded Gretsches a lot - ended up getting a Penguin as a result...which is now long gone. I definitely prefer the Duo Jet over the Penguin. Enjoy!

It is rather strange how certain necks just "work"...I am the same with my Firebird...the neck is thinner than I would usually like, but it plays great.i love sharin foo wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 8:13 amThanks!! I like Filtertrons in a Gretsch hollow body but it has to be Dynasonics in a Jet! Nice looking guitar. I’ve liked that look since Billy Zoom played one in X. The original X. Not the abhorrent Musk version.

Happy NGD!!! I’ve been GAS’ing for a silver jet ever since I got my black duo jet not that long ago. I’ll post some updates on it pretty soon. Glad to hear that the dynasonics mix well with different fuzz pedals for you!

Re: All that glitters is... SILVER
I’d definitely like to hear more about yours! I love Duo Jets too honestly, I was fine with either, just happened to find this Sparkle Jet for a great price and went for it.
I am really pleased with the Dynasonics and fuzz/ boosts. I use a lot of Fuzz Face variants (Analogman, a few home made, Fuzz Factory, etc) and they’ve all been great. Even Big Muffs sound nice. It sounds like a big Telecaster. All the normal tones, but more of them. Nice and fat on the neck but with more sparkle and highs than my Tele, and the bridge is really bright but there’s more girth. It’s really fantastic all the way around. The controls are a bit weird being used to typical Gibson and Fender stuff, but I’ll get over that. My old 6119 only has a 3 way tone switch and a volume control.
