The firebird studio t is a set neck. I think the regular T models (the ones that come with whatever versions of fb pickups Gibson was using at the time…with the chrome rings) are normally built firebirds.
Too many variations (cost saving measures) in a short span of time from 16-18 before the excavator stunt.

Yeah, the Studio sucks. And Gibson has been all over the place with Firebirds, they finally started using AlNiCo pickups again but then dumbed down the headstock and tuners.

The one I bought was great, I love the Steinberger tuners, but had ceramic pickups, since removed.

Frankly they have basically been getting it right with Epiphone but not Gibson.

I imagine I t would be 2100 at least at that’s really stretching the Epiphone image.

Yeah they look really good. The silver isn't getting as much appreciation as it should though, just look at it!!!

The Laurel on this one looks fine too.
I think my ibg fb has Laurel too, and it’s nice and dark.
I already have 3.5 guitars with fb pickups, and as much as I want that green I, I have too much stuff for another toy.

My take is they are darkening the laurel in photos to normalise it - or just plain deceive.

Either way, when I first fell hard for Firebirds, the 1 wasn't even on my radar. Since then, I've developed a love for single-pickup guitars.

However here in NZ, the no-doubt undiscounted price of these will likely mean that the importers won't take a chance on bringing many - in any - in.
Also, NZ is not a country well-known for guitarists toting heather, green or silver guitars. I'd rock any of them but I am in a minority.

Well, this is the Laurel on my Riviera, I really don't think it's very light or anything. I think it's a perfectly good fingerboard wood.

I think that's great also:

I can't imagine anything I'd prefer on this bass.

To each their own I guess. My Rickenbacker has Pau and it looks 'right' but on every Fender I've had with it it looks off for some reason. But I do like dark boards as a rule (and really dislike Maple) so that makes sense.

Yeah, I'm not picky about fingerboard wood at all, but in the case of this fretless bass, the Pau ferro really does work better, it's a very tight grained wood so it feels super smooth in a way that rosewood wouldn't. And since you do touch the fingerboard on a fretless, it works out well. I really like that bass.

Use boiled linseed oil after hitting the board with steel wool. Light coats only.

It will darken over time (sometimes by a lot if you're not careful).

I got some oil on the Riviera and it did darken the wood up a fair amount. At this point it's about as dark as rosewood.

I'm going to put a second oil coat on, man, these fingerboards come from the factory dry.
