Tokai every time. I have 2, have had around 5- they're the best LP's I've ever played and I have 0 interest in a Gibson unless it was a steal.

Well this was very educational! thanks for all of the posts.
I watched a ton of videos and the Orville ones seem to have really skinny necks and nice sounds. The Tokai seem to be the upper crust and most expensive. I've enjoyed Burny's and Greco's IRL as well I guess those are middle of the road and Yamahas are the sleepers.

Yamahas are the sleepers.
Yamaha everything seems to be sleepers. They've been quietly putting out great instruments for 50+ years

200%

I mean either way, I don't think any of the major brands you've listed are gonna result in a bad guitar. Just depends if the particular one you pick up speaks to you or not.

For me it's about the neck size/taper. Most of these sound similar if not exactly the same.

You all know this is the main thing for me when I buy a guitar too. FWIW, almost every MIJ Les Paul I've played has had more of a Fender profile than a Gibson one.

the skinnier the neck I can get with a Les Paul type of guitar i can get the better. I think the skinniest / most comfy I have ever played is a 70's LP deluxe.

I can see just from the picture that that has a wide nut. I've stared at, and inspected closely, hundreds in the last few months trying to work out by eye/measuring the screen like a lunatic how wide nuts are.

Late 70s LPs are often on the skinny side. The narrowest I've played was actually my recent '78 Greco LPC

You might like a Yamaha Studio Lord then. I have an SL-450S and have a friend who had an SL500 that he sold because he couldn't get along with the thin neck. They're definitely not chunky.

I guess they're not MIJ anymore so technically off topic, but does anyone have any experience with current production Burny Les Pauls?
