Do I ‘need’ a Gibson?

If you were gonna get a second guitar to be different than your jm, my vote would be for an sg. I wanna have less guitars, but I’m way gassing for the right sg standard.

This is the right advice. I got in before the prices went bonkers and got an SG Standard back in 2013 for $1400 CAD. Hard to find those prices now.

I have a classic, which I adore, but I want one that’s equally resonant and with double coils. I have exercised an astonishing amount of self discipline lately and NOT bought anything I don’t need, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

I was on the hunt for a Classic at the time. I love those so much. I had a sale arranged at a bar. Went to the bar twenty minutes late, due to traffic and the dude says “I sold it, got to be quick.”
Anyhow, long story short, I went and tried a few at the local big box and ordered myself a 2013 Standard in natural burst.
Only thing I didn’t like, but got used to is the 60s slim taper neck. I like it now, but really didn’t at first. Now I find chunky necks uncomfortable. Go figure.

One guitar is cool and all...but

It's hard to imagine a more dichotomous tandem of one crystalline, clean, crisp fender with its snappy 25.5" scale, and one unctuous, warm, velvet slick 24.75" Gibson. Just pick something real cool. LP Custom, ES-345, SG w/ Vibrola, Explorer.

Nothing like watching a band and being a nerdy fan and seeing the guitarist switch guitars and thinking "oh shit, this is gonna be a ________ kind of song."
