getting a bass
hey
im about to spend some money on a bass.. i've got around 500 US$ to spend (or 2500 danish kroners, if you will)
im a huge Entwistle fan, so right now i'm really into getting a Precision. i can't afford a Fender here in Denmark, with only 500 bucks.
so the best alternative i found was the Squier Vintage Modified Precision bass.. or, perhaps, the Squier Classic Vibe Precision, but i've heard no response to it yet..
Anyways. I know the Vint. Mod. Jazzbass kicks ass, but anyone tried the Precision? I dig the fatter neck and i surely dig the sound of a nice Precision.
Any other alternatives i could look up? it would be a huge advantage if i could buy it from Thomann or similar

Hi, I think the vintage modified series is well built for the money. I recently bought my wife a mustang Bass reissue (cij). She loves it, but it sounds like yr
s set on a P Bass.

well, i've heard the Mustang basses kinda sound like Precision.. but still, i think Fender is a bit beyond my budget, at least here in europe

Re: getting a bass
Here is the range of basses that you mention and that might suit you based on your post thus far. My fave would be the Squier Vintage Modified TB Precision Bass - in part because it looks so cool. I think the Mustang Bass is a fantastic guitar, too, but it might be out of your price range.
Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass

or Squier Classic Vibe Precision '60s Bass

If you are up for something only slightly different - but much cooler imho - I'd suggest:
Squier Vintage Modified TB Precision Bass

or Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass

or (for a bit more money) the Fender Mustang Bass

edit: really, it's tough for me to rank these, though I think the Vintage Modified Precision Bass at the top is my least favorite...

The Kinks - The Fall – The Bad Seeds - Spacemen 3 - The Gories - Royal Trux

I got my mustang on sale for less than 500 here in the states. you might find a used one for cheap. I thought the cij stuff was easy to find and reasonably priced in europe, *sorta* like mim stuff is here. anyways that tb looks tough, and the sonic blue one looks really cool too. Do you have an amp?

Re: getting a bass
im not too keen about the TB Precision.. as far as i've heard its got a more muted and muddy tone.. def' looks cool, but soundwise i'd rather go for something a little more Entwistle..
regarding musicmasters, cij etc. etc.: mex. fender is by far the cheapest fender you come across in europe, unless its korean. but still, mex. fender isn't quite cheap enough. maybe, if i got lucky. a used CIJ Mustang Bass is around 1000$, nothing better to find right now. and i don't really want to go shopping on ebay or whatever.
And yes, i do have an amp. Not entirely dedicated to bass, but works fine with one. Laney Supergroup Mk 1 with a 4x12".. never heard that much bottom end in an amp before

Re: getting a bass
you should seriously consider this forum member's mustang! I'm pretty new so I can't vouch for the guy, but he's got a ton of posts so someone probably can... Anyway it's $450 plus shipping, and shipping to denmark should be less than $100 USD.

Since sunfolk only has 22 posts right now, I don't think he'll be able to see that...quarterpound wrote: you should seriously consider this forum member's mustang! Re: getting a bass
I bought my daughter a Squier Affinity series P-Bass for her to learn on a few years ago. It is really pretty amazing how they can build a guitar as nice for the amount of money it cost. Because of my daughter's small size, we decided to get a her smaller bass. We found a 1977 Fender Mustang and we absolutely love it!

Re: getting a bass
I've got a Classic Vibe telecaster, and the thing is amazing. Based on the quality of that guitar, out of the photos above, I'd go with the CV P-basses. If you like the Ox's tone, you'll need the P-bass. Its kinda his thing. Plus the P-bass is kinda hard to go wrong with unless you're playing acoustic jazz.
What if fat bottomed girls really do make the rockin' world go round?

Re: getting a bass
I'd go along with øøøøøøø on the Tokai's, I really regret selling a paisley tokai strat I had in the late 80's.
I'd also give a big shout out to MIJ Fernandes basses (with proper Fender headstocks not the semi beaky ones). Every Fernandes i've played of this period (early to mid 90's) has been great.
There was used pbass in a shop local to me for just under a hundred pounds recently.

Re: getting a bass
I don't wanna get too far offtopic here but yeah, around these parts, Fernandes, Burny, and Tokai guitars are considered our local gems. Thing is, there's no local distributors, and the Japanese shipping service EMS charges a ton to ship stuff even this far, so I'm stuck with all these second-hand and factory-second guitars that get here by way of China. But they're still usually worth it. Oh, and if you can find em, ESP "Grassroots" are well worth it (the cat's pretty well outta the bag for ESPs and LTDs now). And you guys obviously know about Fender Japan... Anywa it can be tough to know what these will sound like before you buy em. If you find a good deal on any MIJ one, just go for it and just plan on changing the pickups, you almost can't go wrong.
