Fender Hand Carved LTD

Post by 1946dodge » Thu Feb 15, 2007 5:04 pm

On pg 13 of the 1972 Fender catalogue in the Library section, there is a pic of the Hand Carved LTD hollow body Fender guitar.
Has anyone ever seen one?
This was at the time the priciest of guitars in the Fender Catalogue.

56 (? abou that) were made.
Bodies were from Germany, Guards from Italy, necks from USA.

I have never seen one played...I have seen 3 or 4 at guitar shows.
Competition Stripes make them play FASTER.

It always seemed a little odd that a guitar like that would have a bolt on neck.
Most expensive Jazz hollowbodies are set necks.
The thing had a floating pickup so it would not interfere with the resonance of the body.
Some quality jazz hollows have tapped tuned tops like a violin.

I doubt these had that.

Probably that is why they never made it - People who wanted  a hollow body jazz guitar probably wanted a set neck.

I would love to play one though
