StevenO basically nailed the two most famous ones... the hardware on Strummer's tele looks gross!
Times change. Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky? Now it grows hair! We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger

Thanks StevenO.
I can't believe how hard it is to find a pics of really worn teles. I've spent a whole day looking around the net and even have a thread at the reranch forum. Theres heaps of really worn strats but practically no teles.

I hear Strummer had the whole thing painted by some Auto re-spray guy (without removing the hardware), it evidently used to be sunburst.FireAarro wrote: StevenO basically nailed the two most famous ones... the hardware on Strummer's tele looks gross!

Ugh... those look gross! I wouldn't even touch one. And it's not like they'd play nice, they'd feel all crusty and scrape-y, and I dont even think the notes would sound with the saddles all caked up.IPLAYLOUD wrote: http://www.gbase.com/Powered/GearDetail ... tem=771869

Yeah .. but imagine what they'd be like, gently but thoroughly cleaned and set-up with new strings.

That's Strummer's story about the guitar. There are some photos of him in the 101'ers with a sunburst finish tele and early in the Clash it was just plastered with stickers/spray paint. Later it gets the full-on black spray job and new stickers around the time of the Bond's Casino run of shows.Tweez wrote: I hear Strummer had the whole thing painted by some Auto re-spray guy (without removing the hardware), it evidently used to be sunburst.
Edit: FWIW Lennon's '58 Ric 325 was painted black by a sign painter and the bloke used auto spray paint, if I remember the story correctly.

neh, dave, those teles were found in an old school house that had flooded. They were for music class. The guys that owned em put em on display because they are so ruined there werent enough good parts on em to make up a single working guitar.
