Jaguar hh and comanche 6

Post by 1946dodge » Fri Mar 16, 2007 12:00 pm

Here are two of my favorite guitars, my new Jag hh, and my G&L Comanche 6. The comanche 6 is very rare, since it has the 6 miniswitches rather than the strat-like setup of later models (the comanche 5). This is also a Leo Fender Signature model, and I am glad I bought it when I did, since I havent seen another since.

That G&L is great! I'm not keen on Strats, but I like this one, what do the 6 switches do? Turn each 'half' pickup on/off?

tweez, you have guessed correctly.
The six switches are in groups of 3. The three nearest the neck are on off for each pickup. The three near the bridge are 3 way each. away from the pickups you get the treble side of each pickup, towards the pickups you get the bass side and in the middle position you get both.
When the tone knob is turned treble it is really sharp and bright, like a tele, for all pickups. They sound like single coils.
The great thing about this is that when the tone is turned to bass, the sound is really thick like humbuckers, never ever muddy, but full and rich and angry.

This guitar looks strat like but is nothing like a strat.
I would guess it can sound like a tele or a Jag or JM.

This model is unique with the miniswitches. My son has a newer one that is set up more like a strat and you cannot shut off half a pickup with it.
It is simpler that way, but it also loses alot of versatility that I like.

Oddly enough the new ones have the same pickup wires as this comanche 6 so if you wanted to you could convert it.
Alot of musicians dont like all the switches.

But we dont care, because we run Jaguars with all the switches and dont mind at all.

It doesnt take much to learn it, just a very little patience, but the sounds are worth it.

And all you had to do was look at it and you figured it out!

The Commanche sounds like an awesome guitar, I'd love to have something where you could turn the bass or treble side of a pickup on or off. Nice offset pickups too ;)
Times change.  Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky?  Now it grows hair!  We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger
