Can't think of a more contemporary Strat hero, though...

Cool, will have a listen. Mark Speer from Khruangbin came to my mind as someone who is also relatively new to the scene and plain awesome. There's this rig rundown video and he goes on tour with one strat and one(!) pick.

That’s the only guitar he’s ever owned, too. Crazy 😮

Mark is absolutely amazing. IMHO he's one of the greatest players of the last decade

My favourite Stratocaster sightings are of Porl Thompson in the cure’s “show”. Porl uses a few different guitars but really shines with the strat. Especially on doing the unstuck.

Hmm, gotta add Ritzy Bryan to my list of reasons to rock a strat.

I bought four Khruangbin LPs in the last month.
I'm all over Mark Speer!

and while I'm talking about unfashionable guitarists, here's a great solo from a former Strat player:https://youtube.com/shorts/6kBWNaghFZI?feature=share

i agree, he's fantastic. It's amazing how big they got. His Rig Rundown is my favorite episode of all time.

People slag on JF? He's had his personal ups and downs as well as in and outs and RHCP aren't always that well regarded for a variety of reasons but I've always like JF and thought he was a pretty damn good guitar player?

My biggest reason for not liking RHCP is 100% Kiedas. RHCP is a great band let down by someone who does "vocals"

100% on board with all things Frusciante. He was responsible for my initial fascination with Fenders. The strat neck pickup remains my favourite of all guitar tones.

Absolutely loved his solo work, or at least the parts of it that involved guitars and didn't involve heroin. I was a teenager when he did his "6 albums in 6 months" with Josh Klinghoffer right after releasing Shadows Collide with People.

All 7 of those albums were amazing. I listened to them obsessively on my long commutes to and from university.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

All this talk of Frusciante reminded me that I’ve forgotten about Mike McCready.

I'm old enough to have bought his first coupla solo albums when they came out - there wasn't the info available like now with the internet. I loved BSSM and then fell for his solo stuff and still love those old records. it was kinda disappointing to learn that so much of it was heroin-fueled and not just whackiness.

yep - those records with Josh are so bloody good. the solo in LOOK ON.... that whole album... oh but LEVER PULLED...Or CENTRAL... or UNREACHABLE ... and GOD and - CARVEL is one of my fave ever songs. saw him play this show right around TO RECORD WATER.... https://youtu.be/PHGiyRLLWFk
that isn't my video, but I actually filmed him as well - I sitting on the stage just a few feet to his right. I have a ton of vids from their current tour that I filmed from the barrier.... the Strats obv featured highly. the JAG didn't make it on stage... https://youtu.be/elf_oscR1mA (Soul To Squeeze)
