That's what I thought. I have an Eden alder tele body in that same finish that I use as a platform for trying out weird tunings (currently in open C).

oh! good catch. That must be a strat assembled in a left-handed universe, but with knobs sourced from the right-handed ebay. That's my guess anyway

Haha....definitely assembled in a left-handed universe. There's no trickery with the photos, the decal is simply a mirror-image version!

Used to be very anti-Strat but I've recently got the itch for one. I came across a 2002 MiM Strat on reverb and pulled the trigger. I’m really digging the lace sensor in the bridge.

NGD about a fortnight ago.
Diesel 30th ann. Stratocaster.

So I have four Strats now (not counting a Yamaha RGZ) - A 2007 American Select, two pieces of junk built from random parts, and this 2000 MIM which is actually a nice guitar.

Neck has a bit of birdseye - quite thick for a Strat by my relative taste, and has very smooth/chocolate-toned rosewood. Satin neck is now worn to gloss (and thus matches my preference.) It's very lively/resonant/loud unplugged, and despite having stock pickups sounds pretty good through an amp as well (so I'm probably keeping them for at least a while.) Some typical Mexican construction (ex. great construction, the neck, fit/finish in general are very good and it's fine in the vital ways, but somehow they managed to not line up the side-dots consistently from dot to dot.) Believe this is 'Midnight Wine.' I need to file burrs from a couple high frets, but other than that I will probably pick this one up pretty often:

Yep, the early 2000s MIM Standards came in Midnight Wine and even though Fender swears it was a brand new finish for Player Series that came out last year (hmmm..), Sage Green Metallic.

One of the first guitars i ever GASed for when I started playing was a HH Strat in that wine finish with a black pickguard.

I do love the color; it isn't super thick/plasticky either.

Have a few black pickguards - it would be a great look and match my deep red/purple American Select (black headstock & pickguard.) I may eventually swap in the white decoboom (plain) guard with the Sensor Hot Golds in my gold Strat on the previous page, or some Rose Mariposas with black covers/black pickguard.

Have a couple other Strats, but just made a change to my knockaround guitar... This has had a few different setups from a stock Fender HSS guard, an HH JB/Jazz setup, most recently was a Duncan Designed rail with two Duncan Hot Jaguar singles...



But couldn't resist installing a set of- what else? Hot Golds (I know some colors still mis-match below, will work on this someday but it really is a cheap-ass guitar; $70 body & $30 neck from eBay, old Squier or Chinese ripoff hardware with the exception of genuine US G&L knobs and the pickguard is Decoboom if you can believe it.

Might as well make a record; found an ‘04 Squier Standard neck for it. The crappy $30 neck started to bother on a few levels; it was 2mm thicker at the heel (meaning its height above deck so to speak) than any Fender neck for one thing, and the heel going to the 14th fret another. Too bad I widened the neck pocket on the body to fit it. Could probably use a shim now (and shortened grub screws) but much better-playing already.

The neck is about as good as anything - but finish-stripped on the back so probably will rectify the ‘problem’ with wipe-on satin poly. I’m getting better dealing with thicker necks (1which this is) and as far as quality would mostly rank it better than my newer Squier VM neck; very solid piece. Grade it better than the Korean Mighty Mite I almost put on it.

The body on the other hand really is fucked for continuing to be useable, took multiple attempts for me to drill the bridge holes, has a few dings/cracks now apart from as-mentioned the neck pocket being 1mm wider on the treble side than it needs to be, but this is still my lay-around guitar. Trying to not go total ‘Ship of Theseus’ but may go new/Seafoam body if it’s cheap.

The first real stratocaster I ever saw up close was a 25th Anniversary in a pawnbroker when I was a teenager and I've lusted after one ever since. I know it's not the most popular model out there, but it's proven to be a really good guitar and one that is always out and ready to play.
