G&L StratMaster/JazzCaster

Post by CaptainCrunch » Wed Apr 25, 2007 2:46 pm

Saw this floating around Ebay. I kind of got a kick out of it.

I always thought it would be neat to do this to an inexpensive Strat copy, though I would have put a Jag pickup in the middle.

Interesting.  Was it shipped from the factory with that pickup combo?

I bet that is a hell of a guitar. G&L stuff is always very well made, and for the price - not bad at all.
I know it looks kind of smarmy, but I bet it plays and sounds great.

Would look better imo without the middle pickup.

Yea the middle pickup should at least be cream coloured or perhaps black. Stark white makes it stand out too much.

As far as I know G&L never shipped anything like that. They have a 'fat' Single coil that they put in their Telecaster-style ASATs that's a bit smaller than the average Jazzmaster pickup. If they were to factory install anything other than standard singles or humbuckers, I'd wager on them.

G&Ls make wonderful guitars. Much much better than the equivilant USA Tele or Strat. Their ASAT Classic in particular is a killer buy, and even better used as they tend not to have good resale.
Need some XII pickup covers....

The seller doesn't seem to have his facts straight. He thinks those are P-90's, and claims it was a factory special order. I'd need some pics from under the hood before I started waving money at it.

I also agree that the middle pickup couldn't stand out any more if it was neon green (a cream cover, please!), but I think it's neat that it's there. It could do Jazzmaster sounds, but doesn't lose the Strat combined-pickup thing.

And G&L have always been killer used values. My very first git-box was an unplayed L-2500 5 string bass in Candy Apple Red for $650.
