how many gretsches are in the group?

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

how many gretsches are in the group?

Post by sonik » Sun Sep 02, 2007 6:46 am

We've got threads for les pauls, strats, teles...but I can't be the only one whose choice for "non-offsets" is Gretsch

I've got a 2004 Electromatic Jet Baritone

(low E-E + Bigsby =  :-* :-* :-*)

and

a 2006 G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody

Okay, okay, no "real" Gretsches, but the Electromatics are pretty damn good!  Especially the hollowbody, it's really nicely made and it's a blast to play.  And even on these Made in Korea/China models, the pickups have that distinctive Gretsch sound.  Anybody else got one/want one?

That's *exactly* the guitar I thought of purchasing next!! I wanted a baritone, and first thought of the Dano Longhorn, but she's getting hard to find; and then, I saw the Gretsch, and I knew it was the one. Could you tell me more about it, please (couldn't find it in a shop to try it out yet :-\)?

Thanks. :)

I was going to buy one of those 120th anniversary yellow finished Gretsch guitars from a friend that was in mint condition. He was also selling a Gibson SG Classic(that I now own) as well as the Gretsch. I didn't have enough money for the Gretsch at the time and I didn't want the Gibson so I sadly said "no" to both. A few months pass by and Christmas rolls around. I open a big present which was at my tree from my parents. I open it and it's the Gibson SG. I talked to my parents and they said that they wanted to buy me a guitar because they never really supported me with my music when I was growing up. They also said that if I had bought one of the guitars, they would have bought the other for me.

Let's just say I deeply regret not buying the SG when I had the chance so that I would have gotten the Gretsch for Christmas. Jimmy!

Well,i'm no Gretsch-aholic but they are ok.I had a Syncromatic once but not for long.
That weird red one that ZZ Top uses is far-out.
Keep on posting!!

i had a gretsch several years ago...a nice faded orange '64 6120. i keep looking for a new one, but what i want is so far out of my price range...a silver falcon or black phoenix that i'm left looking at the electromatics...not a bad guitar, pretty good for the $ actually, but after playing a silver falcon i just can't settle for the electro's.

I had always lusted after a Tennessean from the 60's (as a.o. played by George Harrison, William Reid, Lou Reed, Gerry Marsden, David Crosby and Steve Marriott) and 3 years ago I finally grabbed the opportunity & got myself a pristine example from 1964 for a very fair price from a German seller on eBay - it's still by far my favourite guitar in my collection... 8)

I have a silver double jet that I really like. I sanded the neck down quite a bit and refinished it so it plays real nice now. I love the filtertrons!

i don't have any pictures of mine though, so here's a nice one i found on google

I had a '64 Double Anniversary and a '68 Streamliner, both of which I sold for one reason or another. I almost bought a '78 Roc Jet the other day, but decided not to. One day I will though. I really love the look and feel, just never get enough use out of them to keep the space and money tied up with one.

Let's see... My username is from one of their songs, and I have posted links and pics of them several times.  That should answer your question.

I'm not trying to get in to a slap fight here, but that just didn't seem like a relevant question.

I have two - one is a TK300 and the other is an early 1960s Corvette. The TK300 was made during the late 1970s period which most Gretsch fans consider to be its "lost weekend" with all kinds of oddball stuff.

Mine is cherry red transparent but this photo shows the body design.

My Corvette has a Burns tremolo and a 4x2 headstock layout. It looks like this (but mine has the stock pickup with no pickup surround)
