Tokai Rickenbacker 12 string clones..

Anyone tried one of these out?.. I saw one at a studio I had picked up some snakes from and dang.. nice rickenbacker rip off.. cant seem to find them anywhere online though.

Rickenbacker defends their brand with the fury of the gods of old. You will almost never see a "lawsuit" Rick advertised anywhere on the web.

not for long anyway...i put up a ibanez rick clone (4001 bass) and it was on ebay for a day before they cancelled it!

i still can't believe they PAY a guy to just search rickenbacker all day. what a freaky job that is!

Wonder if they'll contact me and tell me not to even look for it.. haha maybe they could bribe me with a Model 360/12.. id take down my ad for that hahahaa

I will hand it to them though, they've maintained a small US factory with the same standards for fifty years, and they haven't ramped up production or lowered standards to meet the demand or shorten the wait. I just can't beleive there's such a demand for such skinny necks. I'd buy a Rick 360 6/v64 in a heartbeat if it had a more standard neck profile.

I wonder if the Tokai and other knock-offs copy the neck dimensions?

i don't know...i was working in a music store around the turn of the century (i love saying that) and the ricks they were putting out then had horrible neck problems. the two v64s we had had bows in them that looked like they were made to shoot actual arrows. i had a 1979 12 string that was built like a sh%thouse compared to those chinsy things. haven't played a new one sinse, maybe they're better now.

also somewhere around the mid 80s they DID change the profile to be more "normal", but i bet if you spent a week on a thin neck you'd be used to it. i miss mine terribly..

I don't feel my vintage Ric or my mid 80's (is that vintage now too

) have necks any narrower then my JMs do and looking online specs of a new one are identical to that of a B-width Fender. I'll have to measure mine when I get home.

Rather off topic but vintage Ric's are a pretty good deal these days though it seems prices have climbed up in the last 6 months to reflect the premium prices new are demanding. Still, a clean vintage 360 can be had for about 3.5k whereas a re-issue costs 2/3rds of that or so. That's pretty good value in a vintage guitar as far as I'm concerned.
