3 pickups in one?

Post by mynameisjonas » Mon Feb 11, 2008 5:44 am

the pickup itself is pretty darn ugly, but i i think it's a cool concept:

Yeah, it is realy ugly, but a nice idea. They should offer it with a chrome cover in the vein of the Phat Cats or something.

Seems like it's a popular idea lately, it popped up in those new Vox guitars at NAMM too.

silly.  ::)  maybe it could make me a grilled cheese, too (it could have a Foreman grill built-in).

A already said - Interesting, but ugly.

Maybe a no-hole chrome or white plastic cover would work though.
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

You're probably the inspiration behind it. I can picture it now in the SD offices...

"Alright.. so we need a new sound. Kids are moving away from our pickups and buyin' Ukeleles! We've got to do something!"
"Well... who's cool and hip with the young guns today?"
"Why.. those kids love that Offset Guitars Forum don't they?"
"Why.. yes I think they do!"
"What about that Koyl character? He just built a black jazzmaster/deluxe didn't he?"
"YOU'RE A GENIUS!"

inevitably it was launch an entire series of OSG-inspired pups... thinks of it:

WHOA KIDS, Ride the Wave of Regular Jazzmaster Pickups with
RUMORS OF SURF QP Rock Awesome!
or if alternative is the name of your game
MYNAMEISJONAS Super Distortion Sometimes
and let's not forget the smooth organ sustain sounds of
ORANGGORENG 60s Inspired Pickups!

... ok I think I took that one a bit far.. whatever...

Well, the guy in the video had a shitty amp sound, and his playing wasn't much help in hearing how the thing actually sounds.

And those bright ideas never seem to actually work in practice, you end up with the worst of all three pickup types. I'd rather have a pickup that does one thing well than one that does three things badly.
