To further derail, yeah I am a big fan of the slow and minimal thing as well. I heard some short clips of True Widows new album when they were in the studio and it sounds like it will be rad. He has great tone and I read somewhere he doesn't use any pedals but I have a hard time believing that.

Aside from seeing him play black and a sunbursty looking L6S guitars, it sounded very much like the only effect Phillips used was a short slap back echo. So between the mystery tunings, the guitars, amp and that, I think that was his sound. The show was super loud.

Are you going to keep the 6 way rotary switch? Making sure that the new pickup leads could accommodate would be a good thing to consider if so. The Lawrence 6 way rotary is one of my favorite things about an L6 S!

The Gibson L6S pickups are unique. They are humbucking types - so are a lot of others, but the special about these are the magnets inside, it is a magnetic structure named INDOX VII. In the “Norlin Era” Gibson produced these pickups with the name “ True Blues”. They are extremely powerful and bright, as they are not overwound .
The long gone Harmony Guitars also had INDOX based pickups, they were designed by Harry de Armond, and the coils were wound by Rowe Industries.
Meanwhile, the magnets are not available anymore as the supplying - situated in Indiana - company closed a lot of years ago, and to my knowledge no replacements have been found. Somewhere I saw the name ARNOX named as identical structure, but I never found a supplier.
Boring when unique sources dry out !
