AFAIK on the early 1966 JM's with blocks and binding there were some oddities regarding testing new headstock decals for the model.
The most common one was this post transition logo:

But then there were these:


NOTE THE ALL-BLACK "FENDER" SCRIPT.
On the later "R" decals, dedicated to 1968 and forward guitars, the Fender script was outlined with gold.

When did the "R" logos begin?
And did Fender go back to the transition logo when the block and binding necks arrived?
