For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

Telecaster Saddles....Threaded? Compensated? Brass? Steel? What should I buy?

Post by RumorsOFsurF » Thu Dec 06, 2007 11:44 am

I'm putting my MIM Tele back together after cannibalizing some parts for my CIJ Bigsby, and I'm installing an ashtray style bridge(The only way to go, IMO).  I have the bridge plate, and now I need some saddles.

What should I use?  I don't know which ones work the best.

I'm looking at these:

I'm leaning toward brass...Should I find some compensated ones?

You are right on the money in using the 3 saddles as opposed to six individual ones.  Telecasters sound "like Telecasters" when you have the strings paired up on the same saddle.

Tonally I prefer the sound of brass "paired-saddles" like your second link pic.  Classic 50's Telecaster tone.

I'd go with the three brass saddles if I were you. Personally I can't get used to the feel of modern tele bridges with six saddles and no sides on it...

The guitarist in my dad's band plays his '73 with the ashtray on all the time - I've no idea how he does it!
