NGD: 1976 Jazzmaster - page 4 SURPRISE!!!
this just popped up on my local ebay-ish thing.
well it's on the other side of the country, but it's cheap. take a looksie!
i think it's been refinished, even the pickguard.
the bridge seems right (no saddles ) as well as the vibrato.
the neck looks weird with those dots, doesn't it? dots and binding?
but then again the (remains of the) logo looks right-ish.
i asked for more pics and info... but general thoughts?
thanks!
Pat.

Re: HELP! what to think of this old Jazzmaster (local)?
the seller says it's 1974.
my guess is that it's got a new fretboard... same as my old '72

Re: HELP! what to think of this old Jazzmaster (local)?
well it's weird. no answer yet and i'm afraid someone might hit the BIN.
i think i'll do it and ask for more pics/info - otherwise i could just back out (never done that before).
from my quick research, i'm surprised to find out that fender used the big JAZZMASTER logo from 2/66 on!
so this one could be original and something quite rare: D&B, early F-tuners (looks like it) and big logo.
it's BINable at around $750, but of course i'd haggle.

Re: URGENT HELP! what to think of this old Jazzmaster?
Is some binding on the bass side missing? Or is that the angle/shadows?
The D string changes position relative to the center dots as you move up the neck. It makes me think somethings misaligned, but it must just be weirdness with the bridge. (Factory buzz start bridge, by the way.)
To me it kind of looks both like an amazing deal and money pit both at the same time. But someone should save it!

It almost looks like some of the dots are off-center? Could be the angle...

I think you're right. If you sight the D string, the 3rd and 5th fret markets are considerably lower than the dots further up the neck.invisible man wrote:It almost looks like some of the dots are off-center? Could be the angle...
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Re: URGENT HELP! what to think of this old Jazzmaster?
Do you reckon someone made it a new fretboard?
The wood colour looks strange (could just be the pics) and the frets don't seem to reach the binding in places.
Look by the nut too, on the headstock side. There seems to be signs of something else originally being there.

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Fret board is all over the place - the dots aren't even, and the frets look to be out of kilter too.
Looks servicemans or project guitar at best.

Serviceman with some replacement parts to make it playable. Not worthy of you Pat. Crackwhore would kill it without making eye contact, for the good of the tribe.

i'll wait for more pics and info.
remember i've bought some old fenders that looked so shitty like servicemen's, but turned out to be real ones.
like, i.e.
was actually...
no $ in the game as of now. stay tuned!
we'll see.
even if it has a replaced fretboard, it might still be a good deal!
