The Black Angels use one on a few songs. Check out a few of the videos on Youtube. Judging by what they did with it, I'd say you can get some good sounds out of one. There is a song off of the Passover LP called Manipulation where you can hear it.

So I went past the 12th fret.. they had 2 Jerry Jones baby sitars and 1 regular jerry jones sitar
(used on consignment).. I actually liked the baby ones better..
But no sympathetics string.. same price ($50 difference) so now i dunno which way to go :(

I dont wanna blow $1000 on a jerry jones coral sitar...
i'm the one working on the tele sitar hybrid so i guess i should put in my 2 centavos.  it is very hard to justify (for me anyway) spending the money on the jerry jones stuff, especially if you consider the sympathetic strings to be important.  they are perfect copies of the coral which is great, but i truly doubt the coral was going for the kind of money jones is asking these days!  at its heart the coral was a cheaply made and cheaply designed guitar and it should remain so IMHO...

anyway after frittering around with the rogue for a couple of months and finally gutting it and sticking the stuff on a tele, i've got a couple of notes.

1 i don't think the original scale length of the corals or any of its clones is actually correct.  i spent weeks moving that bloody bridge around trying to find a place where everything was intonated correctly and i ended up farther out than my rogue which would explain why i couldn't go past the 12th fret on it.  AND would also explain why i haven't found an original coral that could intonate past the 12 fret too!  the angle on the buzz bridge is so finicky that i don't think you can run the scale length the same way you would an unbuzzed bridge.  i assumed it was an issue with electric sitars in general but now that i've found the sweet spot on my tele i can use the whole fretboard and stay in tune...

2 the rogue hardware is REALLY CHEAP. i' doubt if jerryjones is using the same stuff but 2 of the sympathetic string posts broke on me when i unscrewed them with a hex wrench.  i doubt they were ever designed to be removed.  it looks like metal but acts like plastic.  the tuners act like they are made from tin.

3 the rogue lipsticks look like lipsticks but they sound like poo.  i put one of the dan armstrong lipsticks on the sympathetic strings and the whole thing finally made sense.  you need a REALLY hot pickup to get those sympathetics.  i'm tempted to put in a piezo or drive them with a sustainer system.

4 the second i put the buzz bridge on a solid body guitar i fell in love.  i still don't get why the jerryjones guys don't do a solid body.  i also put a humbucker in the bridge but even acoustically the thing sings.  i would highly recommend it.

anyway if you listen to the last track on the link "kosmos 2000" you'll hear the rogue in its original form doing most of the leads (i did the track for work don't think i always rip off bararella songs!  :P)  notice that you can hear more of the pick than the actual note!  on the solid body that isn't happening anymore!

i guess the end of this rant is just get a sitar bridge off of ebay and some autoharp tuners and make your own!  it'll defentily cost less than 1000$ and probably sound better than any of the others!  plus you could make it an offset and that would seriously be the SH@T!

the rogue and the jerryjones both use the same gotoh bridge that you can get on ebay.  its tricky to set up but you get used to it after a while.

oh and you're not a hippy, robert smith uses a coral all the time so at the very least you're a slightly overweight goth rocker... :P

here's the prototypical pickguard i'm making, still haven't found the right neck pickup for it...
