P-90's with adjustable poles VS non-adjustable.....
What difference does it really make??
Is it only an issue if you have a really low action or are there other benefits in having adjustable poles??
Equally, what other downsides are there in having fixed poles??
....and....
Do ES-335 tailpieces (with the raised diamond) fit ES-125's??

I don't think I've ever seen a P-90 with non-adjustable pole pieces. Where ever did you see that, kind sir?

Oh??
Maybe I'm being a dumb-ass. I'm looking at ES-125's & I think I made a false assumption.
For some reason I thought the 1940's ones had fixed poles, changing later on to adjustable ones.
I think I may well be totally wrong now that I think about it!!
Ah well. Live & learn.

Okay, I couldn't get this out of my head, so I did some research.
There was a P-90 made for the ES-125, with non-adjustable AlNiCo 5 rod magnets directly in the regular P-90 coil. And in 1949, a new pickup was made for acoustic archtops, with a wider coil, fewer turns and rod magnets, called the McCarty model.

Re: P-90's with adjustable poles VS non-adjustable.....
I was just reading somewere (was it here? I can't even keep track anymore...
) that the only reason humbuckers had adjustable poles was because P-90s had them and Gibson thought it would be more of a selling point. I recently found out through a humbucker mod I discovered where you can switch between north/full/south that the stud side has a stronger (better?) sound than the adjustable side. Ever since I discovered that I flip my humbuckers around to have the stud side nearest the bridge/neck what have you and they sound GREAT when split!
With all this in mind, I imagine that a P-90 with studs would be better. And Curtis Novak just happens to make that very pickup for a Jazzmaster! Whataya think of that?!?

One more guitar, then I'll practice!

Re: P-90's with adjustable poles VS non-adjustable.....
Adjustable string volume. With adjustable pole pieces, you can easily set up your guitar so that each string will sound equally loud, which can be quite a problem with non-adjustable pieces. Downside may be that adjustable pole pieces may (i think) have more microphony problems associated with them, as they can vibrate more easily. Or at least that's what I expect.PorkyPrimeCut wrote: or are there other benefits in having adjustable poles??

Yup. In height. Closer or further away from the strings.....It regulates each strings volume apparently (thanks orang).tsalwel wrote: ....so they are adjustable ? in hight or what ?.....
As for the dirty joke....anything in English using the words "pole" & "screw" is open to standard joke material.

Thankfully this time I was mistaken.....
...by the way. Whats with the red / blue stick business??
